Tilda Swinton,

She should have been nominated multiple times this decade especially for Snowpiercer and We Need to Talk About Kevin.

FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"

She should’ve won for We Need to Talk About Kevin.

Yep. In my personal awards the win for me is between her and Olivia Colman for Tyrannosaur (which is Colman’s career best performance). Some days I edge towards Tilda somedays I edge towards Olivia.

Oh for sure. That breakdown scene in the living room still gives me chills.

Cate Blanchett missing for Reeves, McCarthy and B. Jordan is…a choice. And a horrible one. Meryl not making the cut doesn’t surprise me at all, considering her best career performances are basically from the past century. The rest of the list is not that bad. I disagree with the order but some of the names on the list are really good. Isabelle Huppert, Tilda Swinton, Oscar Isaac, Kim Min-hee, Song Kang-ho and Gael Garcia Bernal making the cut makes super happy. All of them are absolutely phenomenal and have delivered amazing work this century. Also, extremely happy to see Sonia Braga and Catherine Deneuve listed here. I would’ve have loved to see Michelle Williams and Marion Cotillard on the list but one can’t have everything.

And, which great performance Denzel Washington gave in the 21st century? All his notable performances were in the 90s too. This list is bullshit. Meryl had Adaptation, Angels In America, TDWP, Doubt and Julie and Julia in the 2000s. These performances were as HIGHLY ACCLAIMED as her majority of 80s performances if not all of her performances (SC and TBOMC).

Nobody knew Olivia Colman then and nobody cared for her film in 2011. So it should not even be in conversation. Even BAFTA did not care for her.

Denzel gave a great performance in Flight, play the role of an alcoholic person is not easy

Meryl had given 5 great performances in 2000s. (I’m not even considering her 2010s roles since those are hated by film twitter aka “awards decider of who deserves and who doesn’t”). So Denzel is being called #1 for just 1 good role while Meryl is not even on the list for her 5 good roles? Sounds biased and shitty list to me (even going by your logic).

I never said Denzel deserved to be on the list, but I don’t think his inclusion is bad. There’s some bad names on the list and some terrible omissions but there’s also a lot of inspiring choices. And please, Sophie’s Choice and The Bridges of Madison County aren’t the only highly acclaimed performances from Meryl in the past century. If you think that, then I suggest you watch The Deer Hunter, Kramer vs Kramer, Silkwood, Out of Africa and A Cry In the Dark.

LOL Doubt and Julie & Julia as groundbreaking acting performances. One being the most terrible hamfest of an amateur hour and the other a good but intrascendent performance.

Anyway, for all the questionable names, glad to put different names related to world talent, beyond the Oscar bait ones.

Denzel won an Oscar in the 2000’s for Training Day, and was nominated for 3 more in the last eight years (Flight, Fences, Roman J Israel). He should have won another Oscar for Fences. I feel like this should be common knowledge on an awards site. The 21st Century has been pretty productive for him, and he’s giving some of his most acclaimed dramatic performances recently.

He gives strong performances in everything, even his action/popcorn films. He makes average films better. And when he isn’t doing movies, he’s busy winning Tonys for acting on Broadway. Still a titanic actor, and an absolutely deserving choice for the no.1 spot.
