Obvious to Me: It’s way too early to have such a thread open.
The door to exit the thread is that way –>

Yeah it does have to be said that Hudson won’t even be close to happening, because regardless of “acclaim” she has an incredibly weak distributor with no track record at the Oscars. Even Winslet is ahead of her just by virtue of Neon.September 28, 2020 at 9:52 am #1203739151
If she loses, it’s going to be to Olivia Colman or Amanda Seyfried. She’s not losing to any unknown child actor.
Sorry, but I’m just getting those 66th Academy Awards vibes: when Anna Paquin (THE PIANO) won over Hunter, Perez, Ryder and Thompson… Just a feeling, not something rational.
And if Zengel’s performance is superior… I mean, “Why not?”

I thought about Anna Paquin but that was like 26 years ago and since then no child actor has won an Oscar. Obviously, Helena could pull it off but her competition is different from Anna’s. Thompson already had an Oscar (won the previous year), Hunter was winning in lead and Perez was an unknown at the time (and her movie only nomination). Basically her only competition was Winona Ryder and tbh her performance wasn’t anything special.
More recently you had Hailee Steinfeld, that even with a lead performance couldn’t overcome Leo’s atrocious campaign. Then you also have Jacob Tremblay, who also had a lead performance and a huge buzz around him and yet ended up getting snubbed. I really don’t see Helena winning against the most overdue actor/actress alive and an actress in stronger movie (Seyfried). If both movies flop hard, then I will reconsider her.September 28, 2020 at 1:22 pm #1203739634
Riz Ahmed is gonna get nominated everywhere and miss on Oscars night.
Mank will get a lot of nominations, and will win nothing.
Husavik is sneaking in Original Song.
I just love movies. And awards.September 28, 2020 at 6:02 pm #1203740144

– That Evan Rachel Wood is getting in at the Golden Globes.
– That Carey Mulligan is winning the Comedy Globe.
– That The Father is WINNING Motion Picture – Drama.
– That Promising Young Woman will over-perform at BAFTA.
– That McDormand is in danger of getting snubbed at BAFTA.
