Inspired by the This Had Oscar Buzz IMDB game. What are some of the projects on an actor, writer, director etc “Known For” section on their IMDB pages that you found weird, odd or surprising?

Four of the oddest I found were:

Glenn CloseFatal Attraction; 3Below Tales of Arcadia; The Simpsons; Father Figures. Fatal Attraction, no brainer, iconic role, iconic film. Hadn’t even heard of 3Below before seeing it on her page. The Simpsons I can understand since she plays an iconic character but I think most people wouldn’t immediately identify her with that show / role like the way they do with Kelsey Grammer, especially considering her other TV works is The Shield & Damages. I saw Father Figures in a theatre and forget she was in when I leaving the theatre. The only real film I am surprised that wasn’t there is 101 Dalmatians just because of how loved it is.

Mahershala AliHouse of Cards; Luke Cage; The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; The Place Beyond the Pines. House of Cards is the only one of these that makes sense to me, his first real mainstream breakthrough role in an iconic show. I understand Luke Cage because Marvel properties seem to be more searched so they’ll appear more often. But I rewatched both Button & Pines recently and each time I said to myself, “huh, didn’t know Mahershala’s in this”. Even now writing this I’m struggling to remember what his parts in those were. Both just feel so odd that they’re there over his (two?) Oscar-winning roles in Moonlight & Green Book.

Nick RobinsonJurrasic World; Everything, Everything; Boardwalk Empire; The Kings of Summer. JW & EE was a huge blockbuster and his first major leading film role, respectively. Kings is a cute indie, alright. But Boardwalk Empire, for a 1 episode guest-starring role during the third season?. I just find it so unusual that this was his TV work that has included over Melissa & Joey, a meh but popular sitcom where one he was one of the main characters on for five seasons. Was also surprised not see Love, Simon at all considering it’s basically his Pretty Woman (iconic title role in a breakout romcom).

Donald GloverSolo: A Star Wars Story; Atlanta; The Martian; Spider-Man: Homecoming. Solo and Atlanta are arguably his best-known roles, For Lando, well duh. Honestly, kinda shocked that Atlanta was his 2nd entry tbh. Both The Martian & Spiderman were big tentpole films so I expected one of them (more so SM because of the Marvel factor and #Donald4Spiderman) but including both of for what essentially two glorified cameos are in there over Community just feels weird, especially considering the continuing cult appeal of the show.

Good to see that they are finally allowing television to be eligible for “Known For”.

Michael Pena… American Hustle, Crash, End of Watch, Shooter.

American Hustle?? Lol. I could be mixing it up with another movie but isnt he only in that movie for a few minutes as the rich Middle Eastern character?

Also… Shooter. I watched Shooter and I don’t remember seeing him in it.

I just love movies. And awards.

I think there’s a messy algorithm that does that and hence all the mistakes.

Christopher Nolan has ‘Following’ on his known for… something is broken there haha

Glenn Close actually only has Fatal Attraction as her Known For. The 3 other movies/shows are just what she’s been in that have been released most recently.

I never even noticed that guess I’m on mobile. Wow they really need to fix their algorithms

About time, seeing Hannah and Her Sisters as one of Julia Louis Dreyfus’ “Known For” was ridiculous

Was pleasantly surprised to see that there was only one Harry Potter on Emma Watson’s page and that her number one known for was Perks of Being a Wallflower

Having Dirty Grandpa on Aubrey Plaza’s page over both Parks & Rec and Legion is just laughably outrageous and just feels dirty. Hell having “Dirty Grandpa” over Mike & Dave Needs Wedding Dates is just ridiculous, at least she actually makes an impression on the viewer in “Mike & Dave”.
