It has to be only one Oscar, hence the poll. Which of these six terrific performances did she deserve it the most?

She won for the best of her nominated performances.

I find Coal Miner’s Daughter to be such an intriguing film before it becomes a standard musician biopic. It really is a rare glimpse into a pocket of America that people rarely get to see in a meaningful way.

I know you said only one Oscar, but she really should have won for In the Bedroom. She was beyond amazing in it. Halle Berry was terrible in Monster’s Ball. I don’t know how someone watches both performances and votes for Halle.

Carrie and Coal Miner’s Daughter are two of those annoying years where there were two of my all time favorite performances nominated for Best Actress. (Faye Dunaway and Mary Tyler Moore being the other two those years for “Network” and “Ordinary People.”) I hate that when two deserving winners are in the same year and then some years nobody deserves it.

Sissy should have also received a nomination for 3 Women. That is a strange and great performance if you haven’t seen it.

Carrie is the most iconic, but Coal Miner’s Daughter and In the Bedroom are both fantastic.

“Coal Miner’s Daughter.” She won for her best performance. The Academy got it right.

Shelley Duvall should have received a screenwriting credit for 3 Women for bringing attention to some of those 1950s recipes in the 1970s. Talk about a time capsule.

Any time someone mentions Shelley Duvall now I can’t stop thinking about her downward spiral on Dr. Phil. It’s so sad. It’s unfortunate that she will probably be remembered most for her mentally ill, bizarre appearance on the show. I hope she is getting help.

Sissy was damn good in Badlands also. She was just a kid.

The River is kind of an annoying nomination. I think she just got swept in with the other farm women (Field, Lange).

There were some much better performances that year like Mia Farrow in Broadway Danny Rose (unrecognizable) or Kathleen Turner (Romancing the Stone.)

Plus she’s hardly in the film you could argue it is a supporting role. (no wonder Jessica Lange quit the film to produce her own farm movie.)
