I thought Downey, Jr. was hilarious! Paltrow matched him toe-to-toe.. Did you take him seriously?? Only Emma Stone and the Bridesmaids presented better. Everyone else was so robotic.

No, I did not take Downey seriously, but his shtick was still excruciating.  And with the bickering with Paltrow, it was about as funny as a undergoing a root canal.  And what you call “robotic,” I call behaving with dignity.
Vampirella, I don’t think anyone took Downey seriously either nor did I find him funny at all. Matter of fact, I couldn’t roll my eyes any further if I took them out and threw them in the air! Downey must have thought Joaquin Phoenix was brilliant on Letterman.

Last night was taking victories where one could get them.  For me, at least.  As is this, today from EW.com:

And yet, the Oscars were outshone in one respect: CBS’ mega-rated Grammys coverage earlier this month pulled a slightly bigger audience than the usually dominant Academy Awards, and totally stomped the Oscars in the adult demo. The music awards show, likely boosted by the death of Whitney Houston, had 39.9 million viewers, just barely edging out Sunday’s program. If last night’s viewership tally is sustained in Nielsen’s national ratings release tomorrow, it will mark the first year the Grammys drew a larger crowd than the Oscars since Nielsen started its current ratings system in 1992. Among adults 18-49, there was no contest: Grammys had a 14.1 rating to Oscars 11.7.”

Yes, the Oscars would have been bigger is Angelina Jolie died the night before. I’m sure the Academy doesn’t mind their ratings being slightly lower with no untimely death to boost them.

The Oscars also had the NBA all star game against it, the Grammys didn’t have the same kind of competition

Now that it’s been a day – have people here heard people who have not seen The Artist express interest after watching the show?

My sense is that there was no way to really convey the appeal of the film on the show or overcome the built-in resistance it has had, but I am much more curious what anyone who chatted with others found out.

Thanks!

As an aside – the most controversial wardrobe choice might have been made by Asghar Faradi, the director of A Separation.

Why?

He wore a tie.

So what?

Men wearing ties is officially frowned on strenuously by the authorities in Teheran, and with Faradi living somewhat on the edge, he likely made some people upset.

Girls at my school asked if I had seen it, liked it, etc. They liked Jean Dujardin’s speech.

Well, I guess one theory still remains. The academy continues to honor performances of real life people every year.
11: Meryl Streep, Margaret Thatcher
10: Colin Firth, Prince Albert
09: Sandra Bullock, Lee Anne Tuohy
08: Sean Penn, Harvey Milk
07: Marion Cotillard, Edith Piaf
06: Helen Mirren, Queen Elizabeth II & Forest Whitaker, Idi Amin
05: Reese Whitherspoon, June Carter Cash
04: Jamie Fox, Ray Charles & Cate Blanchet Katherine, Hephburn
03: Charlize Theron, Aileen Wuornoss
02: Adrian Brody, Władysław Szpilman & Nocole Kidman, Virginia Woolf
01: Jim Broadbent, John Bayley
00: Julia Roberts, Erin Brockavich

I remember mentioning this a few days ago before the Oscars, and damn near got my head chopped off.

Totally coincidental. Has nothing to do with how people vote. Still interesting though.
I am headed to the Berkshires next week where i hope to see Mrs Donald Gummer..and personally
congratualte her and her family…My house is about 3 miles from hers…and i know she will be there
resting for a few months and cooking and gardening..and preparing to play Violet Weston in
August Osage County… ….most likely place to see her is the fruit and vegetable market or the
general store…The mega superstar actress/ movie star will be as nice to all of the people who
live in the same small town as she is nice to all of Hollywood…

She’s actually going to start shooting her film with Tina Fey in a couple of weeks.
Meryl is heading home…trust me….the town and i both know it…when and where she’s filming a Tina fey movie
does not come into play yet…i do think that AOC is first on the slate…in the summer…

A bit random, but I read this in Scott Feinberg’s article on his Oscar going experience.

Michelle asked me what the highlight of the night was for me, and when I told her it was The Artist winning best picture (because I’m a film history buff and was thrilled to see a black-and-white silent win in the 21st century) she and Busy both remarked that they still need to see it, and promptly made plans to do so this week. (I encouraged Michelle to bring along her young daughter, who loves old movies.)

So Michelle Williams hasn’t even seen The Artist yet. Hmmm…

That would be to do promotion for the film which has yet to open there.

A:OC is currently to start filming in September.
