she don’t have Diana pure beauty but trailer look promisingJune 12, 2013 at 9:33 am #103054
Looks horrednous and gimmicky. God I pray the Academy ignores this shit.June 12, 2013 at 9:55 am #103055
I thought the Pixar lamp was going to hop into frame at the end.
But yeah, it looks like your typical Oscar bait. Depressing.June 12, 2013 at 10:32 am #103056
Yikes. This looks like junk. And Naomi.. Poor thing.June 12, 2013 at 10:37 am #103057
If you took a still of Meryl Streep as Thatcher, or Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln, and showed them to a random person on the street, they’d be like, “Yeah, that’s Margaret Thatcher, that’s Abraham Lincoln.” At the very least they’d know that was someone playing them. Take a still of Watts as Princess Di and you’d get, “That’s Naomi Watts in fancy clothes and a dated hairstyle.” A shame.June 12, 2013 at 10:43 am #103058
Well, same can be said for Nicole Kidman as Grace of Monaco.
But they’re playing princesses. They somehow have to look beautiful in fancy dresses.
I’m still not convinced about the distributor, but the role’s still baity and it looks like they’re going to make a (strong) campaign.June 12, 2013 at 10:48 am #103059
This looks so dumb and pointlessJune 12, 2013 at 10:53 am #103060
Amateur fan-made mess. That music made my skin crawl. Naomi looks NOTHING like Diana.
This will struggle to do well.June 12, 2013 at 11:29 am #103061
I don’t think the teaser is horrible or anything, but I’m not quite seeing the Diana essence from Watts yet. A complete resemblance isn’t required, but that something needs to be there for an icon like this. Hope it’s worth it for Watts’s sake.June 12, 2013 at 11:35 am #103062
The problem with the whole project stems from Diana herself. I don’t consider her an icon – she was famous for being famous, a minor figure who accomplished her assigned duty (producing two heirs) and the really had not much else to do. She had a tragic ending, but by most accounts she was a fairly dull, uninteresting person, not exactly the basis of an exciting drama.June 12, 2013 at 11:49 am #103063
She was an icon to many people, and I have no problems calling her one. Whether Watts is the right person for this role is another matter. I do hope that a longer trailer will have her speaking. That might make a more convincing case for her.June 12, 2013 at 11:59 am #103064

She was a icon for many many people ,totally agree. But not sure for Watts choice…she has not the grace of Diana in the trailer but but the back is very good by cons.June 12, 2013 at 12:08 pm #103065
No question she became an icon, particularly in death. But most published accounts of her life have suggested she wasn’t a particularly notable or interesting personality, other than her being a victim on mulitple levels. Sort of tough to make an interesting drama based on that.
