I think it looks so good, and Sandra looks great as usual as does Cate. I hope Cates character has a lot of screen time. If this does well I think it’s surely in for SAG ensemble.

SAG is literally doing an all-female line-up of presenters, they will probably eat this up.

Bullock, Blanchett, Hathaway, Bonham Carter and Rihanna are all known outside of the US. Cate literally just took over the Festival de Cannes while Bonham Carter has a very strong clout in the UK and Europe in general. Kailing and Paulson are the only ones who are truly local and even the latter is arguable. I’d agree that Sandra and maybe Anne are the only box office draws (Rihanna is a huge force is music but has like zero starpower in cinema and Cate is more of an acclaim/Oscar bait type of actress) but I think the movie will do fine, though obviously less than the original Oceans trilogy (get ready for the thinkpieces about this)
it looks like a cute popcorn movie, nothing more. I’ll definitely go and see it.

I doubt people, especially men, excluding cinephiles, will be very interested in watching this, after all the film isn’t very good, and tbh that line-up is barely known outside US borders. I doubt people know who Cate Blanchett is, sounds ridiculous, but she’s where she is fame-wise due to her talent, she doesn’t have dirty laundry on TMZ or JustJared lol, like adopting children and not having her own or being cheated by her husband or whatever, she hasn’t been in chick-flicks or successful romantic comedies, or has nude pics leaked, like Bullock and Hathaway. The rest, only Rihanna of course is known. HBC isn’t really known, outside of her Harry Potter turn. Paulson and Kaling are strictly US-known, while I don’t even know who Awkwafina is or what she does. My point is that this film isn’t that commercially attractive after all and I’m not saying people hear Cate Blanchett and they have no clue, but they haven’t really cared, excluding cinephiles.
I remember reading an article about troubles in Blanchett’s marriage… something about younger woman and no ring on the finger. It was probably BS but still.
Ranking the cast by how well known I feel they’re in central Europe:
Rihanna
Sandra Bullock
Helena Bonham Carter
Cate Blanchett
Anne Hathaway
Sarah Paulson
Mindy Kaling
AwkwafinaThe film will hopefully do well.

No real awards-worthy performances as I expected, though I would love to see Hathaway nominated at the Golden Globes, she is surprisingly hilarious. Bullock was great as well and was the perfect choice to lead the team in this reboot. I found Blanchett as dull as always (sorry, I just don’t understand the hype with her).
I don’t think this will be a blockbuster by any means, but I also don’t think it will flop either. Watching this made we yearn for more Bullock and Hathaway releases though.
MVP: Anne Hathaway
ReplyCopy URLJune 9, 2018 at 8:22 am #1202561681Saw it today with my sister (who LOVED it….and usually hates most movies or thinks they are meh….so miracles do happen lol). Everyone was great except for one and I need a sequel but for me the MVP was a tie between Hathaway (Where do we start the Best Supporting actress buzz?) and Bullock. Only one I wasn’t fully loving but thought she was good was Rhianna but at the same time I loved her character the most so torn about that one. Also, the fact they killed off you know who off screen pissed me off. My grade: A
