I just noticed that there is no thread for the Screenplay awards as far as I can tell, and as a writer, that pisses me off! No, seriously, though, for those who appreciate the categories, we can discuss them here.

Below are a list (which I will continue to edit and add to) of contenders:

    Original Screenplay

    50/50

    A Separation

    The Artist

    Beginners

    Bridesmaids

    J. Edgar

    Midnight in Paris

    Pariah

    Rango

    Take Shelter

    Tree of Life

    Win Win

    Young Adult

    Adapted Screenplay

    A Dangerous Method

    The Descendants

    Drive

    Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2

    The Help

    Hugo

    Ides of March

    Martha Marcy May Marlene

    Moneyball

    My Week with Marilyn

    Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

We Need To Talk About Kevin

Usually, the Writer’s branch is much more adventerous in its nominations, going for outside choices that have not received much attention. Here’s how I see it lining up:

    Original Screenplay:
    The Artist
    Bridesmaids
    Midnight in Paris
    Rango
    A Separation

    Adapted Screenplay:
    The Descendants
    Drive
    Hugo
    Moneyball
    War Horse

I’m not too sure about Bridesmaids. Too crass for their taste? Then again, they nominated In the Loop that had Peter Capaldi spitting out 100 vulgar words per minute. lol.

Thanks for starting a screenplay thread Spencer! I think you should add ‘Margin Call’ to the Original Screenplay contenders. It’s a sharp, smart screenplay, and it’s been getting some critic’s attention here and there.

Were you able to see this Blacktie?  I’m rooting for this film very much.

Juno, though not one of the all time greats, is much better than a lot of winners – Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and Pillow Talk (the latter because of the quality of what else was in the category) certainly for two.

While thought the screenplay for “Juno” was pretty bad, it looks like Shakespeare next to “Crash.”

Although I’m not sure how we got on the topic of ‘Juno’, I like Cody’s ‘Juno’ screenplay and I was happy for her win.

My current “most likely”.  Really I see two “locks” in each category and the remaining “filler nods” are anybody’s guess:

    ORIGINAL:

    The Artist (Michel Hazanavicius)

    Beginners (Mike Mills)

    Midnight in Paris (Woody Allen)

Win Win (Tom McCarthy & Joe Tiboni)

    Young Adult (Diablo Cody)

    ADAPTED:

The Adventures of Tintin (Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish)

The Descendants (Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon & Jim Rash)

    Hugo (John Logan)

Moneyball (Steven Zaillian, Aaron Sorkin & Stan Chervin)

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Bridget O’Connor & Peter Straughan)

Great! I’ve been talking the film up to people I see but, can only say that I am going to see it because I want to support this Lady’s efforts and the attention she’s hoping to bring to their plight. Sight unseen, cant say much of anything else, except that it has been noted.

Oh come on, pick three – at this point your guesses are as likely as anybody else’s to be on the money .
