The novel by Jonathan Tropper was excellent, so I’m very much looking forward to seeing the film adaptataion. The trailer looks great too! This cast! If the film’s a big critical and commercial hit, there could be possible BP talk. And ummm, Tina Fey makes a big impression here. Maybe even supporting actress level good.

Opens September 12, 2014. Released by Warner Bros.

Starring: Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Adam Driver, Corey Stall, Rose Byrne, Kathryn Hahn, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant, Kathryn Hahn, & Dax Shepard

    Screenplay by Jonathan Tropper

    Directed by Shawn Levy

The trailer looks cute enough, but I seriously doubt that this will make an impact on anything Oscar-related. Shawn Levy is the director, after all, and I’m having trouble imagining the guy helming an Oscar vehicle right after directing The Internship.

This looks really good! Jason Bateman can go from being hilarious to grating on my nerves in a matter of minutes though so heres hoping for the best! The rest of the cast looks top notch in the trailer as well even though its mostly Fey and Bateman. Tina looks like she shines as usual and Fonda looks, bionic breasts and all, amazing for being 76 and like shes gonna nail this role. Hopefully Adam Driver and Corey Stoll are given a chance to impress and dont take too much of a backseat to Tina and Jason like they did in the trailer! Connie Britton too!

What a year Rose Byrne might have. This looks like a hit, and if Annie at least has great box office (I doubt it’ll get great reviews), this could be the year of Byrne.

I had never really thought of Byrne as a comedic actor but after Bridesmaids and Neighbours and this being a possible BO hit, well heck.

I was genuinely surprised by how much I liked this trailer, with the obvious exception being Jane Fonda, whom I’ve never been fond of as an actress nor a person. But personal grudges aside, color me intrigued.

Guess you never saw “Get Him To The Greek” a few years ago. Byrne was absolutely hilarious in that playing a boozy crazy pop star (alongside Russell Brand).  I’m honestly starting to believe this girl could be Meryl Streep-level. It doesn’t seem like anything she can’t do.

Rose Byrne has always been the real deal. Contrast her Emmy-worthy dramatic work on “Damages” to any of her comedic roles (the best one being “Bridesmaids”). Immense range and versatility there that I hope continues with her for many years to come.

I read this book a few years back, and while reading it I kept thinking it would be dynamite Oscar material. So suffice to say I’m slightly surprised to see it being marketed as a light comedy with actors known primarily for comedy. The biggest headscratcher for me is Tina Fey. I adore her (just like most of America) but this is the type of role that, if played by a “serious” actress like Amy Adams, would almost certainly garner supporting actress prizes. I truly wonder if Fey could make a dent in the awards race now.

Tina has some serious acting chops. I learned that with Date Night. She really proved to me she could pull through, and I hope she does here b/c the role in the book is amazing.

You’re probably right, but I hope you’re wrong. I hope Jane Fonda can really shine in this supporting role and make a comeback to the Oscars. She would deserve it so much and based on the book, there’s potential in the role. I see that Tina’s role is quite extended (based on the trailer), because I remember that character not having that much in the book, a Globe nod could happen.

Anyway, I keep my fingers crossed. But I wish a more serious director had directed it.
