Jason Reitman. His first three films – Thank you for Smoking, Juno and Up in the Air – were in the hands of a great director in complete control. His subsequent films that I’ve seen are.. meh

I don’t even consider Up in the Air a great movie. It’s a fine movie that certainly didn’t deserve all those Oscar noms.
Young Adult and Tully are good movies, but I guess Charlize did 80% of the job and Diablo Cody did the rest.

Joe Wright. He went from the masterpieces that are Pride & Prejudice and Atonement to crap like The Woman in the Window and that awful Peter Pan movie.

    M. Night Shyamalan. “The Sixth Sense” was a big ole fluke in hindsight.

Yea his work is overrated. Reitman got lucky because of his father. his direction and writing is adequate. Never understood how he was nominated for best director for Juno when affleck directed the hell out of gone baby gone the same year.

Hard disagree, the tonal control and the pacing were immaculate in Juno and Up in the Air (except the ending in Up in the Air, which was a bit jarring).

Shymalan, definitely, although I liked The Village as well as 6th sense.

I wouldn’t call Juno a great movie either. It didn’t age well.
