January 6, 2021 at 2:00 am #1203965410ONIM is a phenomenal film. Amazing performances from top to bottom. And Regina King’s direction is appropriate for the source material. For her debut, she SLAYED! 👏🏾

Why did I see the completely opposite opinion somewhere lol?
It didn’t get much love from critic awards, either.ReplyCopy URLCoen-Lynch-Fellini

How about the actors?
And the song?
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 6, 2021 at 8:10 am #1203965729I think this is looking at noms in Picture, Screenplay, Supporting Actor (Odom Jr) and Original Song. Regina King has a solid shot in Director, but the poor records of actors-turned-directors and play adaptations there makes me sceptical (as well as their record for female director nominations too, sadly) , especially when I’ve seen quite a few people say her direction isn’t particularly showy or stand-out.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 6, 2021 at 9:35 am #1203965864I appreciated it a lot more after I saw Ma Rainey’s…both adaptations feel stagey, but King’s movie a bit less so.
Only feels like a real threat for Odom. Either song or a Fences-Viola tier supporting fraud.

Beautiful song. It’ll definitely be a contender.

I’m sensing a Best Original Song sweep is on it’s way.

The stand outs are Ben-Adir & Goree IMO.
Odom Jr. will more than likely be a double nominee.
