I know it’s an opening credit song but “Guns Go Bang” fits well with the movie, it sets the mood and it is really catchy. Hope it gets nominated over the songs from CODA, Belfast or Warren contender.

I just love movies. And awards.

Sadly it looks like this year’s winner is going to win based on name recognition. All these critics wins for Billie over Encanto is sad.

I still think Encanto could have a chance over Billie

Song is actually pretty competitive this year, you’ve got Encanto vs Billie (industry favourite) vs Beyoncé (veteran and industry favourite). Ariana & Kid Cudi’s song could prove competitive too.

Billie has been the frontrunner since the song came out, people believed Beyoncé could win but her song flopped, then everyone thought Lin Manuel was going to fight Billie for the win and Disney fucked it up by submitting the weakest song from the film. Not only the song is not as popular as Bruno or Surface Pressure, but No Time to Die was a popular film as well. Billie will win her deserved Oscar for two reasons: first, her song is quite good and it’s the kind of song the Academy likes and two, all her competition flopped.

Billie is the frontrunner by far, Encanto is a distant second.

It is competitive for the noms, the winner is Billie (the frontrunner) or Encanto (a distant second) , no one else has a chance.

Am I the only one that sees H.E.R’s name in the shortlist and gets scared 💀 I kinda wanna put her in my predicted 5 because you can never underestimate her. Also I liked the song even though the autotune is a little annoying

    Last year:
Movie scores nominated at the Hollywood Music and Media Awards and at the Society of Composers and Lyricists, that were also shortlisted at the Oscars and longlisted at BAFTA:

    Da 5 Bloods
    Mank
    Minari
    News of the World
    Tenet
    Soul

Tenet didn’t get in at the Oscars.

    This year:
    Dune
    Don’t Look Up
    The French Dispatch
    The Green Knight
    The Power of the Dog

Dune, Don’t Look Up and The Power of the Dog are locked.

Encanto and Parallel Mothers missed the BAFTA longlist. (Since Wall-E, every animated movie nominated for score at the Oscars was first nominated at BAFTA, with the exception being Tintin, but that had John Williams)

The fact that The Green Knight got shorlisted (Oscars) and longlisted (BAFTA) in Original Score despite tanking everywhere else (Make Up and VFX, and the guilds) makes me wonder if there’s enough passion for the score to get in as a passion pick.

I have a feeling Macbeth will get nominated here. Combination of late release + Carter Burwell being a previous nominee could help.

    Current Song Predix:
    1. “Dos Oruguitas” (Encanto)~ They can finally award Lin an Oscar and honor the film and soundtrack that has become so successful since it hit Disney+
    2. “No Time to Die” (No Time to Die)
    3. “Just Look Up” (Just Look Up)
    4. “Be Alive” (King Richard)
    5. “Here I Am…” (Respect)
    ~
spoilers: “Guns Go Bang” (The Harder They Fall), “Your Song Saved My Life”(Sing2), “Beyond the Shore”(CODA), “Down to Joy”(Belfast), “Somehow You Do”(Four Good Days)

I actually could see any of these 10 getting in!… I do feel like my top 3 are safe though.
