Don’t know why people are thinking Beyoncé could win this, last year we had weak songs in general and Io Si was the frontrunner due to Diane Warren’s narrative, not because it was a popular film or award sweeper, which help H.E.R. to pull of the win without any previous win, this year Beyoncé has really tough competition from Billie and Encanto who are insanely strong contenders.

I’ll make this argument: Songs from Best Picture nominees are most likely to win as we’ve seen in the last decade – “We Belong Together” from Toy Story 3, “Glory” from Selma, “City of Stars” from La La Land, “Shallow” from A Star is Born and “Fight for You” from Judas and the Black Messiah. Only exceptions were “Let It Go” from Frozen and “Remember Me” from Coco, because the BP contenders of those years (Her and Call Me By Your Name, respectively) weren’t strong contenders.

Adele set the standard with “Skyfall” for what original songs should sound like (on top of coming from a Grammys sweep and blockbuster album) and was able to beat out Best Picture contenders’ songs from Life Of Pi and Les Miserables. That Bond win translated for “Writings on the wall” as well who had no competition from songs of BP contenders.

Billie rides off the precedent Adele set (win and critics sweep) and Van Morrison and Beyoncé are in top 5 Best Picture contenders (which always tend to win). This could go anyway so I don’t think anyone is a lock to win, but the likely winners are obviously Billie, Bey and Van.

I think it’s a four way race for Song.

Beyonce and Van Morrison are big names in BP contenders. Can never count them out. No Time To Die is the frontrunner and the stat of Bond films is strong. And then there’s Lin Manuel Miranda for Dos Oruguitas in a huge film which submitted the wrong song (personally,I think Dos Oruguitas is the best song in Encanto but it’s just me). My favourite is probably No Time To Die.

I pretend that song does not exist. But true!

Watch out….Van Morrison might just pull off the upset, against all of Film Twitter’s odds.

    – highly respected veteran artist
    – Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee,
    – The entire Belfast soundtrack is about and by him
    – Down To Joy is prominently featured in the film.
    – The song is great. Had this been only the music branch voting, he would’ve won this in a cakewalk.
    – Belfast is a formidable Best Picture nominee (might even be the Best Picture winner).

All of your Belfast predictions have flopped, nice try. Belfast missed editing, Balfe, and cinematography btw. How are you coping with TPOTD’s 12 nominations?

when voting for Original Song, don’t voters only see the song title and movie?

I loved the way they used the song in the SAG clip, but Beyonce is not going to campaign for it. If No Time to Die loses, it’ll be to Encanto
