    Best Picture:
    Will win: Three Billboards
Should win: Phantom Thread (or Three Billboards if we’re going with the films that actually have a realistic chance of victory)
Shouldn’t win: Darkest Hour and especially The Post
Should be nominated: Blade Runner 2049

    Best Director:
    Will Win: Guillermo del Toro
Should win: Any of them but I’d prefer PTA, Nolan, or Peele
    Shouldn’t win: N/A
Should be nominated: Denis Villenueve (Blade Runner 2049)

    Best Actor:
    Will Win: Gary Oldman
Should win: Daniel Day-Lewis or Timothee Chalamet
Shouldn’t win: Daniel Kaluuya is great in Get Out but I’m not sure if he was top five of the year good. Haven’t seen Roman J. Israel so I can’t comment there.
Should be nominated: James Franco (The Disaster Artist)

    Best Actress:
    Will win: Frances McDormand
Should win: Either Margot Robbie, Saoirse Ronan, or Sally Hawkins
Shouldn’t win: Meryl Streep; She was fine but not Oscar-worthy.
Should be nominated: Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth) or Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread)

    Best Supporting Actor:
    Will win: Sam Rockwell
Should win: Either Rockwell or Dafoe but preferably the former
Shouldn’t win: N/A; Haven’t seen Plummer and none of the performances here are objectionable. I guess Jenkins and Harrelson are the weaker performances of this slate.
Should be nominated: Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name) or Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water)

    Best Supporting Actress:
    Will win: Allison Janney
Should win: Laurie Metcalf; Would be perfectly fine with a Manville victory
    Shouldn’t win: Mary J. Blige
Should be nominated: Bria Vinaite (The Florida Project)

    Best Original Screenplay:
Will win: Three Billboards (Coin flip between this and Get Out but this is the safer option)
Should win: Either Three Billboards or Get Out; Get Out has the more ambitious screenplay though I prefer Billboards more.
Shouldn’t win: I like all the nominees but The Shape of Water’s last 15 minutes are really rushed and as a whole the film is admittedly predictable.
    Should be nominated: Phantom Thread

    Best Adapted Screenplay:
Will win: Call Me By Your Name:
Should win: Call Me By Your Name
Shouldn’t win: Logan (I like this film but it’s also very predictable)
Should be nominated: Blade Runner 2049

Is anyone factoring in the preferential ballot? The precursors do not use this system. It appears most people aren’t cooking with grease at this point. An “upset” should be expected. It’s basically a mathematical certainty.
