Waves has neither crashed nor burned and anyone who thinks that is sorely misguided. Just because it didn’t win an audience award at TIFF doesn’t mean it’s not competitive.. Lady Bird and Moonlight didn’t win one either. The film still has better reviews than a few of the films in the top ten and while it’s lost a lot of steam since Telluride, Sterling K. Brown is a formidable threat in Supporting Actor

It’s not just that Waves didn’t get Top 3 at TIFF, it’s that it has an 84% on Rotten Tommatoes. Which films does it have better reviews than? Because A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Ford v Ferrari, Just Mercy, The Two Popes, Marriage Story, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Parasite, The Report, Pain and Glory, The Lighthouse, The Farewell, The Aeronauts and even Avengers Endgame are all ahead of it.

And no I’m not counting Metacritic, because if Metacritic mattered Jojo Rabbit woukd not be a Top 3 Picture contender with a 53.

BP: Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Ford v Ferrari, Marriage Story,
BD: Bong-Joon Ho, Taika Waititi, Todd Phillips, Noah Baumbach
Actor: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Pattinson, Adam Driver, Roman Griffin Davis, Christian Bale
    Actress: Lupita Nyong'o, Scarlett Johansson
    S. Actor: Willem Dafoe, Song Kang-Ho, Sam Rockwell, Al Pacino, Alan Alda
    S. Actress: Laura Dern, Thomasin McKensie, Cho Yeo-Jeong
AS: Jojo Rabbit, Joker, The Irishman
OS: Parasite, Marriage Story, Ford v Ferrari

Still I believe Sterling is a potential nominee in supporting. The buzz is good

I think Us could easily walk away with 0 nominations.

Seberg reviews have definitely killed its hope of any nominations.

I think that Dark Waters and The Aeronauts could walk away with no nominations (Aeronauts might get some technical nominations).

LOL @ comparing Waves to Moonlight and Lady Bird.

    Waves: 80 MC

    Lady Bird: 94 MC
    Moonlight: 99 MC

Yeah there maybe some slight differences between these films.

They are all three coming of age dramas from A24 so I think the comparison is warranted

lol Aeronauts is so dead that the ‘epic movie that has to be on the biggest screen’ just got its imax run dumped in favor of a Kanye West concert movie lol

I am confused when it comes to Aeronauts. At some sites, that movie sounds like a turkey. Other sites are praising the lead performances. Then I see that the movie has 90% on Rottentomatoes and 73 on MC

The Laundromat absolutely crashed and burned. Remember when people were hyping it?

Now it is on Netflix most of the discussion is about Meryl Streep’s performance, and it isn’t good buzz at all.

    For Your Consideration:

Best Picture: Weathering With You, Parasite, The Lighthouse
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe - The Lighthouse
Best Animated Feature: Weathering With You, Promare
Best International Film: Weathering With You, Parasite

I watched “The Laundromat” this morning. The story had potential but Soderbergh didn’t know how to tell it. What was up with Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas’ characters? The opening had me scratching my head with their roles as explainers.

Since it’s on Netflix, I may watch it again for Meryl. I usually find her really good or great in her performances but just no. With what her character was going through, I should have had some sympathy towards Ellen but I didn’t. She kind of got on my nerves. Maybe I missed something. Maybe I need to watch again. Even when a movie is so so, Meryl usually shines. Not here.

Darlings, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is going to flop and The Laundromat is a giant flop (except for Streep). Love this bloodbath. And Death is coming to more films.

HARRIET is the biggest flop of them all. After all the pundits predicted Erivo to be a lock for the Best actress win it became the biggest dissapointment.

Darling, it deserved to flop. Even after Cheap Beyoncé’s disappearance the race is still boring.
