In the past decade, every year there has been a trend of acting nominees who got in all 3 precursors of the Globe, Critics Choice, and SAG but missed the Oscar nomination. Performers who tragically met the snubbed fate in spite of their Globe/BFCA/SAG combination include J-Lo, Chalamet, Blunt, Franco, Chau, and many more. Will there be such a potential nominee this year who will get snubbed in spite of a strong precursor performance?

I think there will be no snubs this year.
Chastain is the easy pick for a snub but she’s still getting nominated. People who’ve watched the film think the performance is genuinely oscarworthy.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2022 at 5:30 am #1204778717I think it will be Chastain. Starting off as a potential winner and frontrunner, she’s been losing momentum. She didn’t win any trifecta. And didn’t win the Globe when people mostly expected an upset from her rather than Kidman. And outside the U.S her support is weak, as evidenced by the fact she neither got in AACTA nor BAFTA.

Neither did Colman…

Weaker movie is the only argument against Chastain.February 6, 2022 at 5:48 am #1204778743Neither did Colman….
At least she received Toronto and LFCC nominations and won the former. So she has some international support. And not to mention her movie has been showing up in the guilds, as opposed to the almost complete absence of TEOTF.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2022 at 6:12 am #1204778759Denzel, the movie doesn’t perform well throughout the award season, I think he’s fifth at the moment. I wanted to say Alana Haim but notice that she wasn’t nominated for SAG. I feel that Kidman is probably an option here, not sure how many number one votes she’ll get, I have a hunch that Colman or Chastain could end up having more number one votes than her, but her name will appear on so many ballots that might save her from being chopped. At this moment I’m keeping all actresses in, but if I have to pick a name it would probably be Chastain.

Colman, because the film is divisive as Spencer or even more than Spencer, despite an excellent performance by Colman or Chastain because let’s be real, who saw that film.
Supporting Categories are all set and locked top2 or top3.

I can see Jessica Chastain getting snubbed.February 6, 2022 at 6:29 am #1204778791Chastain and maybe Colman are the only ones here I can see missing. Everyone else feels completely safe.
ReplyCopy URLI’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.

Neither did Colman…
Weaker movie is the only argument against Chastain.Chastain isn’t as well liked and her performance is worse, are other arguments.

She wasn’t nominated in supporting at BFCA, this one doesn’t really count.

Even Kidman?
I wouldn’t count Zengel because she didn’t get into the actual supporting actress lineup at Critic’s Choice. And due to how News of the World fell after it’s PGA miss, everyone expected her to get snubbed.
