    Happy
    Rampling

Ex Machina in Screenplay and Visual Effects!

Boy and the World (based on trailer alone, but it sure looks amazing!) And it meant I won my 500 point bet with 5/5!

    Unhappy
No Carol in BP or BD: #boysclub

The Martian in screenplay – wtf? I know Steve Jobs wasn’t perfect but come on! (And 45 Years would have been a perfect nominee.)

Category fraud of Mara and Vikander, and at the expense of a theoretically possible supporting nom for Ex Machina

    Indifferent
Jennifer Lawrence – she was quite good. Bit of a flimsy film (better than The Danish Girl though) but I’m really not that shocked by her nomination. The annoying thing is I had the Best Actress category nailed for several months until I fell for Globes and BAFTA’s placement for Vikander. Dammit.

Tarantino snub: his Hateful Eight script had abundant strengths and a few weaknesses, such as a rather disappointing extended flashback as well as long passages of expository dialogue only slightly disguised by Tarantino’s unmistakable style. The snub gave me 5/5 for my predictions, so that makes me happy I guess…

I’m sad that Johnny Depp and Will Smith were pushed aside for Eddue Mundayne, but Stallone got his nomination, so everything is a-okay.

    Who is that?

I only know an Academy Award-winning actor named Eddie Redmayne. Some respect.

Apologies. He just comes off as a bit Oscar baity with his past couple roles. No hatred, just feel he didn’t deserve to win last year.

He has plenty of respect already. It’s only a silly pun.

    Happy:
-Certain branches of the Academy being independent thinkers — particularly the Animated branch and the Documentary branch
-Lenny Abrahamson being the new Benh Zeitlin
-Correctly predicting Vikander for Danish Girl in Supporting
-Lady Gaga inevitably winning an Oscar this year (when will your faves)
-The major love for Mad Max: Fury Road. People began to doubt its chances but it performed really well
-Sylvester Stallone being on his way to victory
-Ridley Scott being snubbed — I totally called it, plus The Martian was really not that impressive to me.
-The fact that Bryan Cranston, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rachel McAdams, Charlotte Rampling are now Oscar nominees
-Quentin Tarantino and Aaron Sorkin being snubbed for far-from-their-best work

    Upset:
-Pretty much all of the acting nominees feel rubber-stamped. Especially Lead Actor and Actress. They just went with the flow.
-No out-of-nowhere nomination in acting. What happened to the Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jackie Weaver, Laura Dern nominating Academy I used to know?!
-12 nominations for The Revenant — way too many
    -No Jacob Tremblay
-That awful Sam Smith song being nominated — come on.

    Mixed:
-Carol. I love that it scored 6 nominations. I was honestly dreading the worst. But for it not to get into Director and Picture after all that love was crushing. It’s still my no. 1 movie of the year and nothing will change that.

Actually happy for (almost) everyone, but if I had to mark something, will be:

    HAPPY
    – Roger Deakins nomination for Sicario, one of the best works in cinematography in 2015
    – Johann Johannsson score for Sicario
    – Ex Machina nominations, especially for original screenplay
    – Mad Max love

    UPSET
    – No Jacob Tremblay
    – No Alicia Vikander for Ex Machina, where she should be nominated for best actress in a SUPPORTING role
    – Not exactly an upset, but with the support that Mad Max received, should not Charlize Theron be a nominee? Even that she only have some minor critics awards and a Critics Choice nomination, here’s a place that the voters should bring us a great surprise, instead an another Jennifer Lawrence nom. I really appreciate Lawrence, but I think between both, Charlize would makes more sense.

Not to mention the category frauds, that the Academy seems don’t care about.

    Happy:
Almost all the nominees, especially DiCaprio and Hardy for The Revenant and Rampling in 45 Years

    Not Happy:
No nod for Dano or Cusack in Love and Mercy
No nod for Elizabeth Banks in Love and Mercy
    No nod for Michael Shannon
    No nod for Michael Keaton
Why oh why Jennifer Lawrence????  Joy was pretty much all over the place

    UPSET

-Snubs by Maggie Smith, Scott, Carol!!! Idris Elba was superb!, I hope Diane Warren wins her OSCAR for another song, that Gaga song is terrible.

    Happy

    – The Revenant, Blanchett, Ronan, Winslet, Rampling, Hardy

    Happy:
    Ex Machina nod
Rachel McAdams (I doubted her so hard though I rooted for the nomination)
    Diane Warren and Lady Gaga
Tom Hardy (also unexpected for me)
Boy and the World (go Brazil!!)

    Unhappy:
    Jennifer overrated Lawrence
    Carol BP snub
Writings On The Wall nod (tho I’m happy for Sam, but the song is awful)
The fraud (alicia should be double nominee, still happy for her nod)
