“I would be tempted to put Spielberg there, but The Post is underperforming. And just with Bridge of Spies [recently], remember everybody on that bridge and all the spies got nominated except the director of the film.”

I have heard Amanda say that Frances will win because she’s the only American five times already. She’s not!

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 18, 2018 at 10:35 am #1202470175My hope is that the academy goes crazy this year, gives us a ton of surprise nominees that will be jaw-droppers, and then gives the awards to films and performers that nobody is expecting to win! (; That would be wonderful and it would be great to see everybody on here reacting to it all! (;
My guess is that it will be predictable, boring, the wrong films will be nominated and win, and it will all be a great big yawn!
I am still furious at the Foreign Language Film panelists for not nominating BPM (Beats per Minute), the French entry, which was my #1 film of 2017. That category is ruined for me, even if a great film wins, they should have at least put it on the list of nominees considering it has won the most awards of any of the Foreign Language films of 2017.

I should clarify that she was talking about the SAG contenders

You are right, but I don’t think the most traditional members will get what gives it snob appeal anyway. What appeals and matters to them is how much money it made

That’s certainly possible but a completely different question. Tom kept going back again and again to “snob factor” when the snobs like it more than any other film in contention.
