A lot of these people also missed BAFTA in addition to the Oscars. Blunt, Aniston, Franco, Shannon, Mirren, Chao, Lopez, etc.
BAFTA is a good indicator of waning support. Especially if it’s a British actor getting snubbed (Blunt/Mirren).
I’ll probably pull whoever misses a BAFTA nom this year. And even then, some may miss with all 4 televised precursors.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 3, 2021 at 3:15 am #1204079175I’m sticking to the top five so far- Davis, Day, Kirby, McDormand, and Mulligan. I don’t see Adams getting in at this point and I don’t feel like Pike will either. I feel like if there’s a shocker it’ll be Loren as she’s a legend. But we’ll see.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 3, 2021 at 3:47 am #12040792101. I feel like Diaz was never going to get a nomination so that wasn’t surprising.
2. That was definitely strange- Foxx and DiCaprio were safe and I feel like Depp and Cheadle were probably seen as solid but if anybody was going to miss, you’d think it be Cheadle. But Giamatti probably wasn’t the passion pick of a lot of people and Eastwood really is great in Million Dollar Baby so I guess it just happens.
3. Crowe has a bad reputation in the industry so no surprises here.
4. I guess they thought DiCaprio had the better performance in Blood Diamond and wanted to spread the wealth which they did in terms of the nominations that year; a very diverse set.
5. Gosling got snubbed because of good will for Tommy Lee Jones but he could have taken Depp’s spot as well who ended up being just safe enough. Jolie’s movie wasn’t widely seen enough from what I gather and she’s not really taken that seriously as an actress a lot of the time.
6. She’s good in the movie but to be honest it’s Portman’s show. Weaver took her spot I think although if the Academy had the guts to put Steinfeld in lead Kunis would have gotten in.
7. Sometimes the Academy passes over Oscar bait so it seems that explains DiCaprio’s snub this year. Rooney Mara’s nomination was a big WTF to me but I guess Swinton’s film was just too indie for them?I’ll stop there for now lol.

Just a hunch, but in that scenario I think Barbara Hershey with her BAFTA nom would’ve been the Paul Scofield to Mila Kunis’s John Turturro (referring to Quiz Show).

Previously these threads were lowkey Amy Adams dragging, she is passing the baton to her co-star.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 3, 2021 at 12:02 pm #1204080421It’s almost too obvious that it will be Maria Bakalova

March 13, 2021 at 2:30 am #1204115953Kirby easy call here. Oldman too since no1curr about mank, passion but not loved. Mulligan since MTV movies dont do well at oscar- see Gone Girl and that had Fincher! I hope Bakalova makes it but she may end up here too
Oh wow. You’re suggesting Mulligan, the front runner for the Oscar might get snubbed? That’s a joke.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 13, 2021 at 2:35 am #1204115964I’m surprised noone has mentioned the possibility of the Chicago cast members cancelling each other out and Sacha Baron Cohen missing.
I could see both the Borat stars being snubbed on Monday.

(I could also see Borat overperforming too, so who knows)March 13, 2021 at 2:42 am #1204115976This is why bafta is often critical (well used to be) as many of these were also missing from bafta and then Oscar. BAFTA really is Oscar-eve
ReplyCopy URLMarch 13, 2021 at 3:32 pm #1204118093I think it will be Maria Bakalova and/or Gary Oldman.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 15, 2021 at 7:04 am #1204133487So no one this year? Hasn’t happened since 2010 when the best picture lineup was increased to 10.

Does CCA not nominate child actors? Should we count that? Whatever I’ll tune in next year to see the snub from all of the precursors nominations return.
