Someone made a comment in one of the threads here that it is now harder to get an acting nomination if you’re (a) the only actor nominated for your film, and (b) in a movie that is not a Best Picture nominee.
That comment bugged me, because I personally have a lot of favorite performances from people who meet both criteria. So I found some time today to sit down and look at the stats, and they are insane. Since the expansion of BP nominations, the number of sole acting nominations from non-BP films got even less compared to before. That number is even less if you remove actors from that same list who’s been nominated before.
