James Coco in Only When I Laugh was also queer in film and in real life.

Yeah but that was almost 20 years before McKellen.

Steven Spielberg earns his very first screenwriting nomination – 33 years after his sister Anne was nominated for “Big”.

With Ana de Armas’ nomination, this is the first time in nearly 50 years that an NC-17 rated movie earned an acting nod. The last time this happened was when Marlon Brando was nominated for Last Tango in Paris back in 1973.

there have been double supporting actor/actress nominations since the 2018 oscars

    • 2018: Sam Rockwell & Woody Harrelson, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
    • 2019: Emma Stone & Rachel Weisz, The Favourite
    • 2020: Al Pacino & Joe Pesci, The Irishman
    • 2021: Daniel Kaluuya & LaKeith Stanfield, Judas and the Black Messiah
    • 2022: Kodi Smit-McPhee & Jesse Plemons, The Power of the Dog
    • 2023:
      • Jamie Lee Curtis & Stephanie Hsu, Everything Everywhere All At Once
      • Brendan Gleeson & Barry Keoghan, The Banshees of Inisherin

it happened TWICE this year, and another fun fact, two of these films were directed by Martin McDonagh

In addition, this is only the third time that multiple films got double supporting actor/actress nominations in the same year. The previous occasions were 1939 and 1959.

Came here to write this. It never happened before, there were 4 films overlapping twice (1998 and 2014).

That in acting, but he was nominated in 1959 as a producer for “Anatomy of a murder”
