With Ireland getting in, fourth year in a row there’s a new country represented in International Film. Ireland is having a great year altogether with Aftersun, Banshees, Quiet Girl and An Irish Goodbye all nominated.
No animated films outside the animated categories too. When was the last time that happened?
Knives Out and Glass Onion both are lone nominees in screenplay. I thought the Before trilogy did this too but only Before Midnight got a nomination.

January 24, 2023 at 2:23 pm #1205264760This years Best Picture lineup is the 2nd highest grossing of all time. The 10 nominees combined have accumulated $3.99B globally.
The record is held by the 2010 lineup which has grossed a total of $4.84B globally.
Notably, both Avatar movies were part each respective lineup.

Unfortunately that’s not as impressive when you consider Top Gun and Avatar combined make up $3.5B of the $4.0B.

All Quiet on the Western Front is adapted from the novel but there was an Oscar-winning English movie so technically, four of the five adapted screenplay nominees are from movies.
