Judi Dench never attended Golden Globe. I bet Dench didn’t know or care that she was nominated.

I also remember seeing a photo in a magazine at the time of Jane Fonda & Diane Keaton engaged in a conversation at the ceremony.

Albert Finney never attended when was nominated, neither did Glenda Jackson.

Dench was not there for Notes and Philomena.

Sean Penn didn’t attended the ceremonies when he doesn’t have a chance to win.

Smith’s daughter got ill during the Oscars in 01 and he had to leave.

Judi Dench didn’t attend the ceremony on 2007 because she was having a knee surgery. In 2014, as Cate Blanchett’s speech she was in India filming a sequel of Exotic Marigold Hotel.

Meryl didn’t attend the ceremony of Oscars 1991 because she was due on her pregnancy and so is Natalie Portman last 2017.

Ellen Burstyn was in Broadway doing Same Time, Next Year. She was allowed to skip the show and can attend the ceremony but she has to be replaced by an understudy. She chose to stay for Broadway show.

Albert Finney refused to attend the ceremonies because there is no alcohol and smoking during the telecast. He finds it perhaps boring.

Sean Penn only showed up when he knew he has 99% chance.

Maggie Smith was also in Broadway when she won for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.

Debra Winger didn’t turn up in 1983 for her first nomination for An Officer and a Gentleman (1982).

I read that she was filming Terms of Endearment at that time thus her absence.

Winger also had a terrible time making Officer and a Gentlemen (producers calling her fat etc.) that I think she was somewhat ambivalent about being nominated for that film. She probably could have flown in from the Terms set if she really wanted to since it was filmed in the middle of the country but I don’t think she wanted to support a film that had been so awful to make. (there’s a Barbara Walters interview on youtube where she discusses that film.)
