The first thread was already well over 500 posts.

Keep the discussion going here about the 2108 Oscars. The predictions center is now open with the first 6 categories. Both screenplay categories should be added within the next week. All other categories coming soon.

We need to sacrifice a overdue person to a newbie at the predictions. From likely to no I think Oldman,Bening,Dafoe,Pfeiffer

Or a record breaking Oscar win (that goes for Meryl and DDL).

Sad that Kirsten Dunst, Woodshock, Glenn Close, The Wife, On Chesil Beach still haven’t been added to the predictions center. Woodshock’s going to Venice and probably either TIFF/Telluride and The Wife is also going somewhere. All of A24’s other movies positioned in awards season are named except Woodshock. And judging by the trailer, it looks wonderful.

Please add Tiffany Haddish to the prediction center for supporting actress for girls Trip.

Unlikely for DDL. To win twice within five years is ridiculous, no matter how he tries to position himself for an Oscar with this ‘retirement” angle. And as much as I adore Meryl, she’s not that complete of a lock, even though right now I have her in first and DDL in second. Things change rapidly in 6-7 months.

I’d love to see Close added but, to be fair, The Wife doesn’t even have a distributor at this point.

True, but I doubt he can do it again.

So why is Hugh Jackman not in the prediction center for Logan? Matt Damon is in there twice. Andrew Garfield is in their twice, and Jackman has a much better chance to get in than Garfield, even if it is not for Logan. I think Jackman should be added. And Tiffany Haddish in Supporting Actress for Girls Trip.

Shape of Water original or adapted? Could be a precursor to controversy!

She really is a perennial non-factor for a competitive win. Give her the honorary now.

Neither should be in there, but especially Gabriel. You need to give that up.

So I looked at the past 10 years since 2006 and there has always been at least 1 BP nominee where there’s only a female lead and no male leads. To my knowledge it’s happened every year except 2014 with boyhood being the closest to fit that criteria.

    2006 – The Queen
    2007 – Juno
    2008 – The Reader
    2009 – Blind Side
    2010 – Black Swan
    2011 – The help
2012 – Beast of the Southern Wild
    2013 – Gravity
    2014 – Boyhood (closest one I guess)
    2015 – Brooklyn/Room
    2016 – Arrival/Hidden Figures

So which BP contender right now on the odds would fit this criteria.
