The costumes for Beauty and the Beast look gorgeous. Possibly a nom for Art Direction as well.

I’m very excited at the prospects of another original musical next year, “The Greatest Showman” with Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams. Love to see it make the cut and put them both in the running again… Also in the cast: Rebecca Ferguson, Zac Efron, and Zendaya.

Speaking of musicals, I’m pretty sure “Beauty and the Beast” will at least make the cut for Costume Design, Production Design, Makeup/Hair and Original Song (there are 3 new ones).

Could we have 3 sundance movies make it do BP next year? The big sick, Call me by your name, and Mudbound all have tremendous buzz. What is the most sundance movies to get into the BP lineup?

I doubt it… Pure comedies don’t do well so count out the big sick. I’m not convinced a really sensual same sex romance will make it at the Oscars either… They went for moonlight but the actual gay parts of that were very minimized. Or maybe I’m just cynical. Mudbound seems to have a good shot though!

So looking back on the equivalent post from this time last year there were 3 films being talked about here that have now been nominated… LLL, lion and Manchester by the sea (after sundance obviously). If it’s the same this year I wonder what it will be…

I would have guessed birth of a nation and Billy Lynn as the most likely last year though (people were
really high on the founder too) so I don’t think I’d have any luck predicting what they will be.

Really hoping that John Hurt has a great role in The Darkest Hour after today’s tragic news.

If civil war and deadpool didn’t get any love, I find it hard that logan gets, mad max may have changed some things, but we can’t say every action movie sligthly dramatic will get nominated, critics loved civil war, but the Oscars chose not to nominate 10

I’m looking forward for this film. I love Alfredson’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and if it turns out to be good, Fassbender might get a BA nomination
