I see Johansson as this year’s Lady Gaga… Early favourite with the biggest momentum from the start of the season who had to settle for just nominations everywhere in the end.

I would think you of all people wouldn’t be slandering Stef by comparing her to Scarjo.

Theron is the only one that can save us from a Scarjo win. If her movie gets 8 nominations a la Vice. Watch out Scarjo!

I don’t see Bombshell getting 8 nominations, but Theron still feels like a more likely winner than Johansson. First time nominees usually don’t win.

    For Your Consideration.

I can see it getting a lot of momentum because of the me-too movement.

I have it getting nominations for:
    1. Best Picture
    2. Best Actress (THERON)
    3. Best Supporting Actress (ROBBIE)
    4. Best Supporting Actress (KIDMAN)
    5. Best Supporting Actor (LITHGOW)
    6. Best Original Screenplay
    7. Hair and Makeup

the prediction center is a mess. They have Ronan and Erivo as the favorites.

Although the trailer was a let down by many, I still have hope for Erivo. Its only September, so we can’t say who is a lock for the win yet.

I also have concerns about Bombshell. Are we really going to make Megyn Kelly into a hero???? Someone who has made many controversial remarks regarding Blacks in America? I am not completely sure on how Bombshell will turn out, but I have my doubts regarding the film. Plus, Charlize Theron is not the most liked woman in Hollywood also.

I think that may be an angle the movie plays. Like, yea, these women aren’t nice people, but they still didn’t deserve what they went through. Maybe.

Best Supporting Actress (KIDMAN) 5. Best Supporting Actor (LITHGOW) 6. Best Original Screenplay 7. Hair and Makeup

I don’t think it will get two Supporting Actress nominations. Little Women might, since it has Pugh raves and Streep bias, but Kidman won’t have a strong enough narrative. Robbie seems like a likely nominee though.

    For Your Consideration.

Agreed. I can easily see this have tone issues and be dismissed by the woke critics as problematic.

Gaga was an industry outsider with like 2 acting credits to her name, not one of the biggest female stars in hollywood who’s been working for over 20 years and given several critically acclaimed performances without being recognized.

Eh? They do all the time!

    Olivia Colman
    Brie Larson
    Sandra Bullock
    Marion Cotillard
    Reese Witherspoon
    Charlize Theron (!!)
    Halle Berry
    Hilary Swank
    Gwyneth Paltrow
    Helen Hunt
    Emma Thompson
    Kathy Bates
    Jessica Tandy
    Marlee Matlin
    Sally Field
    Diane Keaton
    Louise Fletcher
    Glenda Jackson (I’ll stop here)

And that’s just in Best Actress!

What’s Zellweger’s narrative? A comeback? She needs a terrific performance and I don’t expect it. Judging from the trailer, this looks like an average HBO film and although Zellweger has the look, something’s not there.

And Zellweger won an Oscar (for an awful performance), so why give her a second? Theron has the filmography to back up a second win but second wins are rare and much easier for men. So maybe Eviro will ride the buzz (and she has enormous buzz for somebody who’s relatively new to movies) and take it.

Actor actually quite a lot first time winners as well

    Peter Finch
    Richard Dreyfus
    Ben Kingsley
    F. Murray Abraham
    William Hurt
    Michael Douglas (for acting)
    Daniel Day Lewis
    Jeremy Irons
    Anthony Hopkins
    Nicolas Cage
    Geoffrey Rush
    Roberto Benigni
    Adrian Brody
    Jamie Foxx
    Phillip Seymour Hoffman
    Forrest Whittaker

The funny thing is that Johansson’s reviews are a lot weaker than Driver.
