I think The Laundromat may still have a chance, if The Irishman goes under. It got decently good reviews, and it could take the Vice slot from last year–topical comedy that got mixed reviews but comes from a strong enough team to pull it through.

I’m not one with high expectations for The Irishman, but even a career worst Scorcese movie would be a better Oscars contender than The Laundromat. Scorcese could do a remake of The Room and have Best Picture buzz.

    For Your Consideration:

Best Picture: Weathering With You, Parasite, The Lighthouse
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe - The Lighthouse
Best Animated Feature: Weathering With You, Promare
Best International Film: Weathering With You, Parasite

I think Green Book’s win last year set an annoying precedent which means any half-decent crowd-pleasing festival film can crack into the major categories and basically even win.

Oh god, does this mean Sundance-core films like Little Miss Sunshine are going to start taking over the Oscars conversation? That’s a fate worse than death.

I feel like Ford v Ferrari and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood will be the big crowdpleaser contenders of this year, and probably the most whined about Picture nominees, if Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody are any indication. I also feel like the latter could pull a Green Book and win, if the buzz it gets out of TIFF is big enough.

    For Your Consideration.

    The Laundromat has flopped critically.
Marriage Story and Irishman will be Netflix’s major players.

Critics love Ford v Ferrari though. Definitely not like BoRap or Green Book just by that alone.

Total 8 films have been screened in #Venice76 so far, and ‘JOKER’ It is in second place for the best film award according to the network of Italian critics, but the network of Russian critics has ‘JOKER’ in first position. Venice Prestigious ‘The Golden Lion’ is possible. https://t.co/kiakiGGOOp

Green Book was well liked by critics too though, with a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes and 69 on Metacritic. Based on the early reviews, I think this film could score somewhere close to those numbers.

    For Your Consideration.

And according to these Italian critics Polanski’s movie is in first place for the best film award.

I doubt either gross 900M WW like BoRap.

Absolutely not, but I could see both becoming slow burn successes like Green Book was. Bohemian Rhapsody (and Black Panther) were anomalies last year.

I dont know how to feel about it. It looks good, For me its oscar chances depend of its box office. Regardless, I think it gets in best picture comedy at the globes.
