I think The Farewell’s best shot at an Oscar nomination is for Best Supporting Actress – I can never quite remember her name? Shao Sanzhen?

Well you could just, you know, look it up, seeing as you’re already on… oh never mind.

Am I the only gay guy that smears Lady Bird to the fullest? And screw Greta Gerwig’s director nod and Emma Stone’s incredibly stupid remark at the Oscar too!

    No, Lady Bird sucked.

Yeah welcome to gold derby. Where basicness is celebrated and art is trashed.

Lady Bird sure as hell are celebrated here. I have yet to see a post trashing it.

Lol what? On this page, you just said that you hate it and Gerwig’s nom, and Xander said it sucked:

Am I the only gay guy that smears Lady Bird to the fullest? And screw Greta Gerwig’s director nod and Emma Stone’s incredibly stupid remark at the Oscar too!

    No, Lady Bird sucked.

And I’ve seen it more than several times called both overrated and trash throughout this site.

Women getting nominated only because of narrative (regardless of quality)?

Lol. Friend, if that’s how it works for 95% of the men, why should narrative be disregarded for women? There have been six or seven truly qualified nominees for Best Director this decade, so don’t act like everyone outside of Gerwig is nominated based on quality first and foremost.

    All of this is narrative.

I found Lady Bird to be pretty fucking basic, especially in the year of The Shape of WaterThree Billboards, and I, Tonya. I’m not saying nobody can like it–I personally just don’t. It’s not even terrible, I just find it to be mediocre.

I will say, in its favor, Ronan is very good and Metcalf is spectacular. The movie is just not my cup of tea.

On the other hand, I’m very excited for Little Women, partly because the trailer looked excellent and partly because I will always watch a Laura Dern movie.

Believe it or not but this movie came out two weeks ago in France. I will gladly watch it

I am so jealous that you live in France! (; Just went to the French Film Festival here where I live in the U.S. and dream of winning the lottery and moving to France! (Torn between Arcachon and Frejus/St. Raphael, with a place of course in Paris too!) (: A guy can dream! (:

Hope you enjoy Can You Ever Forgive Me? Two wonderful performances by Oscar nominees Melissa McCarthy and Richard E Grant! (:

I think Slumdog Millionaire was the last BP winner without any acting nominations? So it can happen but is incredibly rare!
