1917 is the dominant frontrunner thanks to it’s one-shot nature and the fact that Roger Deakins is no longer cursed thanks to Blade Runner 2049. A Hidden Life and The Lighthouse are also safe bets right now, the former because Terrence Malick films almost always get in, and the latter because it’s filmed in such a clever and unique way. The last two nominees will probably be Picture nomineees: my bets right now are on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Irishman.

You are missing Ford vs Ferrari. Hidden Life is not getting in. Malick films havent been nominated since tree of life lol

Roger Deakins comes to mind, irrespective of the film’s reception.

I think Avengers: EndgameOnce Upon A Time In Hollywood, and Parasite seem solid as contenders. I’m holding out on 1917 till its release.

Oscars 2020: I stan Joaquin Phoenix, Willem Dafoe, Alan Silvestri, and Dean Deblois.

Emmys 2020: I stan Logan Lerman, Olivia Colman, and David Harbour.

Tom Hanks and Amy Adams stan in general.

Lucy in the Sky currently has a 35 on Metacritic, so if you still have it in your predictions, I would suggest swapping it out. Too bad, I thought it had some potential.

Endgame for Cinematography? That’s not gonna happen. Flat out, probably not even a top 15 contender for that category. The reason being probably, the Cinematography branch voters aren’t gonna go for Marvel Studio’s brand of cinematography. Not even Rachel Morrison’s Panther camera work was honored, even at the guild-awards level.

Time for the Avenger stans to understand that Avengers Endgame is just a visual effects contender

Avengers: Endgame will be paraded around in For Your Consideration by Disney because they’d want their crown jewel of Marvel to get Oscars, but that won’t happen* in any way other than technical awards.

*unless literally every unseen Oscars contender isn’t happening, which is absurdly unlikely.

    For Your Consideration:

    Best Picture: Parasite
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe - The Lighthouse
Best Animated Feature: Weathering With You, Promare
    Best International Film: Parasite

Black Panther broke the mold for the Score category (it was the first Marvel score to be nominated), but that was at least unique. I don’t see how Endgame’s score stands out compared to most other Marvel scores and I would be surprised at a nomination.

I agree with that analysis. Endgame will break out a little more than previous non-Black Panther marvel films did, due to it’s massive box office, high critical acclaim, and an aggressive campaign from Disney, but any nominations other then those 4 seem unlikely to me. It will probably hit the same sweet spot that Last Jedi did after Force Awakens overperformed with a film editing nom.

Wow, Thatcher’s unique presence will be missed from me. Yes she could be rude, but I’d be lying if I said she wasn’t super entertaining.

I guess since y’all insist on talking about Avengers every 3 pages, I will offer the reasoning why I put it back in. To begin, our current odds in the PC are: OUATIH, Irishman, MS, Jojo, 1917, LW, FvF, Parasite, ABDITN and Joker.

Currently, Avengers is sitting at number 21, but there are some non-factors ahead of it, The Report, The Laundromat, A Hidden Life, Ad Astra, Waves to name a few. The only likely movies above it are The Farewell, The Two Popes, Bombshell, and Pain and Glory (all of which should not be dismissed.)

Of the 10 supposed frontrunners, Little Women, Irishman, and/or 1917 COULD flop, Jojo Rabbit and Joker have very mixed reactions, and in my personal opinion FvF and ABDITN look incredibly generic, and I’m still not convinced on Parasite in picture. But even if you remove my personal opinion, that still leaves only 5 “locks.”

So as there are so few locks, It’s not out of the question now like it was right after Venice and Tiff. Then, there is the ABC factor, Disney’s presumable massive campaign (worth noting Disney may put more behind Endgame than either FvF or Jojo,) the ratings and press this “surprise” would generate… there seems to be a lot of reasons to throw the most successful movie of all time at least a nomination.

Honest to God,when you witness and see all the politics, money campaigning and bad mouthing and negative whispering that goes into Oscar season, you start to dislike these awards.

Brad Pitt is right to not campaign as it literally puts a dent into your art.

This award system is not right and not based on merit.I just found out that Netflix spent $25 millions on ROMA’s award campaign not that it was anything less than a masterpiece but DAMN.
