I’m fairly confident that Emile Mosseri will get nominated for Minari. Just the tidbits of the music from the trailer sound absolutely gorgeous.

Here are my updated picks (as of November 17th, 2020):

    1. Mank (Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross)
    2. Soul (Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross)
    3. Tenet (Ludwig Göransson)
    4. Da 5 Bloods (Terence Blanchard)
    5. News of the World (James Newton Howard)

And on the bench, we’ve got:

    • Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Branford Marsalis)
    • The Midnight Sky (Alexandre Desplat)
    • The United States vs. Billie Holiday (Kris Bowers)
    • The Trial of the Chicago 7 (Daniel Pemberton)
    • Minari (Emile Mosseri)

The score for Minari is just out of this world. I don’t know how Mosseri does it, but each scene with his music just made the film more perfect than it already was.

I highly doubt Desplat misses. He is an Academy favorite and we know his score for The Midnight Sky is good because of screenings they’ve had.

Have a great day if you see this!

FYC: Chadwick Boseman - Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

Any specific moment in Da 5 Bloods that stood out? I haven’t seen it since it came out but I don’t remember the score being anything memorable.

I just love movies. And awards.

Does anyone think there’s any traction for Thomas Newman’s score for Let Them All Talk?  Or has anyone heard anything his score for The Little Things?

Just he’s still never won on 15 nominations, another would make him the most nominated living non-winner I think..?

Best Original Score is not included in Amazon’s FYC page for One Night in Miami which would indicate that the studio presumes it will be ineligible. I haven’t seen the film so I can’t verify how much of a score there is.

    Current predictions (listed alphabetically):

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom – Branford Marsalis
Mank – Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross
The Midnight Sky – Alexandre Desplat
News of the World – James Newton Howard
Soul – Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross (& Jon Batiste?)

If Minari is snubbed in this category, then the Academy is truly, truly deluded.

    FYC from what I've seen:

Best Picture - Minari, Nomadland, Another Round, Promising Young Woman
Best Director - Chloe Zhao (Nomadland), Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round)
Best Actor - Steven Yeun (Minari), Riz Ahmed (The Sound of Metal)
Best Actress - Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman), Frances McDormand (Nomadland), Han Ye-ri (Minari)
Best Supporting Actor - Brian Dennehy (Driveways), Ben Mendelsohn (Babyteeth)
Best Supporting Actres - Youn Yuh-jung (Minari)

Soul’s score is kinda.. crazy. It felt like watching some prestige HBO series but in a Pixar movie and it just worked so well

    FYC :

Best Actress - Viola Davis, Frances McDormand
Best Actor - Delroy Lindo, Chadwick Boseman
Best Supporting Actor - Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman
    Best Picture - Nomadland
    Best Director - Chloé Zhao
SAG Ensemble - Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
    Best Cinematography - Nomadland

Soul’s score is flawless. Best of the year.

I know I’m in the minority here but I still prefer the Tenet score to the one in Soul. Maybe that’s because I saw the trailer a gazillion times because it was literally one of the only ones they showed in theaters in summer, but the main theme is so insanely memorable and I think I could always remember it while I found the one in Soul great when I watched the film but already kind of forgot afterwards. Maybe that just means I have to see the film again though.

    FYC:

Lead Actor: Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round)

Supporting Actress: Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm)

Supporting Actor: Paul Raci (Sound of Metal)

Is Soul even eligible? Idk if it’s been changed in the recent rule changes, but I remember The Dark Knight was  not eligible for score because Zimmer and Newton Howard worked on the score separately. If it is eligible, would Batiste be nominated alongside Reznor and Ross?
