Either that or he’s gonna be like de Niro in The Irishman, the already rewarded star in the titular role but that no one is really passionate about.

That was a special case with the controversial de-aging. Oldman as Mankiewicz apparently isn’t even wearing makeup.

Either that or he’s gonna be like de Niro in The Irishman, the already rewarded star in the titular role but that no one is really passionate about.

But De Niro’s role was passive throughout the first 2 thirds of the film, and in the last third, while he was absolutely amazing, he didn’t have a big Oscar-y moment. His performance was too understated for the academy and combined with one of the best actor lineups of recent history he couldn’t get through. This year the competition, while still strong, is nowhere as strong as it was last year, and Oldman’s role is way juicier than De Niro’s, playing a drunk witty screenwriter who will basically be in every second of the film.

This blows such an easy sweep for Boseman in supporting actor. Stupid. That either concedes that lead Oscars are more prestigious than supporting Oscars (they are), or the Netflix strategy is to prioritize maximum nominations over potential wins. Hella ballsy move, and many will be fuming if this backfires. Supporting actor is going to be more barren than many people realize. It can’t just all be “Chicago 7” guys there. Or maybe Chadwick gets the double nominations after all? Hmmmm.

Chadwick getting nominated for Da 5 Bloods, would’ve been such a clear case of getting nominated on a narrative alone, because there was absolutely no one that was saying that this turn was Oscar worthy, but now that he died, he can apparently can get nominated for it?

I’m still rethinking all my Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor picks since this Boseman category placement. I believe Delroy is pratically out of the Oscar lineup, but I do believe he might well sneak a GG nod or a SAG nom.
    Right now:
    NYFCC – Lindo
    LAFCA – Yeun
    NSFC – Hopkins
    NBR – Boseman
CRITICS’ CHOICE – Ahmed, Boseman, Hanks, Hopkins, Kaluuya, Oldman, Yeun
SAG – Boseman, Hopkins, Kaluuya, Oldman, Yeun
BAFTA – Boseman, Hopkins, Kaluuya, Oldman, Ben-Adir
Golden Globes (Drama) – Boseman, Hopkins, Kaluuya, Lindo, Oldman
Golden Globes (Comedy/Musical) – Baron Cohen, Broadbent, Davidson, Murray, Patel
Oscars – Boseman, Hopkins, Kaluuya, Oldman, Yeun
    .
    It… looks… like… a bloodbath!

I don’t see Boseman losing at SAG.

Dear Gold Derby, please add Ibrahima Gueye to the prediction center 🙂

Colin Firth for a film with a crappy distributor is not ahead of Holland with Apple (unless Holland’s film ends up being panned which is possible).

Also I doubt Kaluuya wins the Oscar if he wins SAG but loses the Globe + BAFTA to Hopkins. I mean Cotillard won with the Globe + BAFTA over Christie with the Globe +SAG and Meryl won with the Globe + BAFTA over Viola who won SAG.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", AMANDA SEYFRIED FOR "MANK", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

SAG are more receptive to posthumous noms / wins than any other group (see Orbach & Gandolfini), this is Boseman’s to lose.
