    1. Chadwick Boseman, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
    2. Anthony Hopkins, The Father
    3. Gary Oldman, Mank

The last two spots are up for grabs, I would say Lindo is 4th but there hasn’t been much talk about Da 5 Bloods recently so I’m a little skeptical right now.

I’m mostly considering Lindo, Ahmed, and Yeun for those two spots with Hanks and Firth as alternatives. I’m not considering Judas until we get a release date.

Best Actor this year is capital I incredible. Imagine wanting to cancel 2021’s Oscars with this abundance of rich performances.

Yeah, there’s no need for an implied asterisk on this year’s Oscars except maybe for categories like visual effects. There are strong fields and weak fields, just like any average Oscar year.

This year seems pretty strong across the board all things considered. The only category I do not care at all is supporting actor.

I’d say both supporting categories look open at the moment, but I think they could still wind up with strong overall nominees.

WB is campaigning Affleck for The Way Back. His ceiling is likely SAG at best but I wonder what this means for the studios confidence / release for Judas

Why not? lol His performance was very well received and it´s the type of film that could get him some traction. If Gosling got in for The Ides of March, Gere for Arbitrage or Smith for Concussion at the Globes, Affleck could do it too over GD´s faves as Yeun or Ahmed that will have way less traction.

I’m going to predict Mads. Denmark is submitting Another Round which I feel certain will make it to the final International Film lineup considering that it played to good reviews (and raves for Mads’ performance) at TIFF and already has buzz in the English-speaking world. Banderas 2.0.
