December 1, 2020 at 9:56 pm #1203888802Been going on a Chadwick Boseman marathon before Ma Rainey comes out. Saw Marshall a couple of days ago and just saw 42 tonight. Neither movie was great (in fact 42 was pretty bad until the 2nd half) but Boseman was easily the best part of both of them: those performances were phenomenal!
He’s starting to win me over. I can see why so many people want him to win now. My head still says Hopkins will sweep the season but my heart thinks Boseman might have a chance.
John's Best of 2020
Best Picture: Soul
Best Director: George Clooney-The Midnight Sky
Best Actor: Chadwick Boseman-Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
Best Actress: Viola Davis-Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
Best Supporting Actor: Delroy Lindo-Da Five Bloods
Best Supporting Actress: Amanda Seyfried-Mank
Best Original Screenplay: Soul
Best Adapted Screenplay: The Midnight SkyDecember 2, 2020 at 6:25 am #1203889141I think he has more than a chance. It’s an official showdown!!
December 2, 2020 at 6:36 am #1203889168So much debate about who wins between Boseman and Hopkins but just maybe Ahmed swoops in and takes it.
December 2, 2020 at 7:50 am #1203889264I still think Hopkins will walk away with this.
I also find it interesting that Lindo has fallen from a frontrunner in supporting to likely barely getting nominated in lead.

He would still be the frontrunner in Supporting if Netflix wasn’t addicted to committing self-sabotage against themselves.

Well he’s competing in lead because he’s the lead in his film, no one else from Da 5 bloods has even a closer presence or a similar arc so from the start I didn’t see a path for a category fraud. Netflix definitely did the right thing with that. If it went the other way y’all would be complaining how no true supporting players win there anymore.

Exactly. It was absolutely a borderline role.

Lindo is far from the “lead” of that movie. It’s a pretty solid ensemble cast with everyone being Supporting. He wouldn’t have been fraud at all and would’ve won. Now he might not even get nominated.

Where else has Netflix done that? If you’re thinking of Boseman, the consensus is that he is, if anything, more lead than Davis; people here just jumped to conclusions as per usual.
December 2, 2020 at 12:38 pm #1203890110I don’t think Boseman has any real competition here.
1. Boseman
2. Hopkins
3. Oldman
4. Ahmed
5. Yeun
6. Lindo
7. Ben-Adir
8. Stanfield
9. Hanks
10. WashingtonKaluuya would get nominated here but my understanding is that his studio is leaning towards securing a supporting win.

FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"
December 2, 2020 at 1:50 pm #1203890237The way I suggested this the other day and people like David called me delusional. We been knew.
Because you have to be delusional if you think Ahmed has a chance at beating both Boseman and Hopkins when his film isn’t even a bp contender and he didn’t even receive nearly the same type of reviews as those two received…
