Banderas’ movie was raved and had SPC behind him.
Another Round has great audience reception, reviews aren’t that great, but it’s distributor is… Samuel Goldwyn Films lol.

The same people who are killing Sally Hawkins’ chances this year 🙁

November 18, 2020 at 8:44 am #1203845257This year seems pretty strong across the board all things considered. The only category I do not care at all is supporting actor.
Agreed!

Reviews are good enough. Where did you get to know that Samuel Goldwyn is the distributor? I can only see the Danish production company listed, and it is not there on SG’s 2020 release slate.
FYC:
Best Director - Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Darius Marder (Sound of Metal)
Lead Actor - Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods), Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal)

I remember there being news about them buying it, and it’s on their site

Looks good, and it seems like they’ve managed to avoid an overtly stagey feel, so props to King and the adapter. All the actors look great, but it was hard to get a strong feel on them. Excited for this one, I think it’s gonna be something special.
Still can’t wait to hear what Leslie Odom Jr. had put together for the song. I adore him.

November 18, 2020 at 11:41 am #1203845643Surprised people are still predicting Tom Hanks. In such a strong field, it would be so easy for Academy voters to snub him again, like they already have many times before.

Yeah, I think his speech at the Golden Globes for the Cecil B. DeMille Award and playing Mr. Rogers is why he was finally able to get nominated again last year after missing out so many times before.
Dear Gold Derby, please add Ibrahima Gueye to the prediction center 🙂
November 18, 2020 at 12:02 pm #1203845709They have really only snubbed him once.
November 18, 2020 at 12:04 pm #1203845714Obviously this could be a Captain Phillips situation where his newcomer costar gets nominated and he doesn’t, but I think extra momentum from last year, the fact that he was the first major celebrity to contract COVID, and the potential for News of the World to be a major player will help Hanks get in. I’m surprised so many people don’t have him in their Top 5s.

Yeah, I could see an argument for why The Post was a snub too since he got CC and GG noms (and it was shut out at SAG inexplicably). The only other movies he got nominations for were Sully (CC) and Charlie Wilson’s War (GG Comedy) which in my book don’t count as snubs.

And it still stings.
Dear Gold Derby, please add Ibrahima Gueye to the prediction center 🙂
