1. Boseman
2. Hopkins
3. Oldman
4. Ahmed5….Yeun, if A24 manages to pick up the campaign and hammer on the fact that nobody of East Asian descent has been nominated in lead actor. Lindo seems to have been abandoned, nobody is talking about Ben-Adir, Hanks is easily snubbable, Stanfield won’t campaign + the WB drama.
Probably gonna swap the last spot out a dozen times though.

10. Tom Holland, CherryBIFA nominations left me wondering if Hopkins and The Father are going to miss even if he and the film itself were nominated. Also, I don’t think voters will pick these many actors of color.
December 11, 2020 at 6:39 pm #1203913134Just watched SOUND OF METAL.
Ahmed definitely deserves to be in the lineup. He should be a lock.

Hopkins and The Father are some of the safest bets in their categories. That is unless voters don’t watch it (although I’d be surprised tbh).
I actually think voters will pick lots of people of colour this year. For me it seems tone deaf for them not to in this socio-political climate when they give some of the best, most widely seen and acclaimed performances in their categories.

December 12, 2020 at 12:09 pm #1203914862Why can’t we pick Mads Mikkelsen in the prediction center for his terrific performance in Another Round ? Also if the film is campaigned in Comedy, he’s a shoe in for a nomination (and even maybe for a win) for Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy at the Globes
December 12, 2020 at 12:37 pm #1203914932I watched “Sound of Metal” today and I’m really hoping Riz Ahmed is a contender this year. He is phenomenal. I was expecting him to be a bit showy because of the baity nature of the role, but Ahmed feels very natural and organically lived-in with this performance, even in his bigger moments. His face expresses so much that yelling, throwing things and cursing (which he does also do very well) can’t properly convey. I know this race has already seemed to boil down to Hopkins vs. Boseman, so Ahmed may have to settle for being a nominee this year, but I’ll be honest, without having seen Boseman’s performance, I may prefer Ahmed to Hopkins. I’m really rooting for him in this race.
December 12, 2020 at 3:28 pm #1203915301I know he has a shitty distirbutor but could Madds Mikkelsen overcome that like Bryan Cranston did and get nominated for Another Round? It just swept the European Film Awards, he has one of the most acclaimed performances of the year and I’d argue he has an outsider chance at the Globe win and a BAFTA nomination?
I mean I haven’t even seen this film nor am I fan of Madds (he was great in Hannibal but he wasn’t my MVP) but he has more buzz than some of the people we talk about on here?
