Not sure if it would have been between those two… I feel like Delroy Lindo and Riz Ahmed would have been the main challengers to Hopkins. And, given that The Father doesn’t seem to have as much steam as initially thought, I feel like Delroy might have won a surprise Oscar. Chadiwck would probably have been nominated, though.
I strongly doubt Lindo and Ahmed would have been the fronturnners to win. Every Best Actor winner since 2009 has been in a Best Picture nominee and both of those actor’s films won’t be nominated. It was always going to be Hopkins vs Boseman.

Yeah, he’s much worse. That’s the point I was making. If Joaquin Phoenix can win for playing a 6-time murderer and psychopath, Lindo can get nominated for playing a Trump supporter.

No, he’s not going to be so lucky like he was in 2017, when Franco was snubbed for the misconduct allegations.

Its still early..maybe something could derail a certain actors race and make way for denzel.

Yeah, i remember hearing a podcast about how the Academy will never reward a character like Arthur Fleck for being so despicable, they were so wrong lol.

Well you’ve just proven my point because Willem Dafoe did get nominated over someone in a BP nominee!

It’s not like the Academy hasn’t regarded despicable characters before. Did anyone remember the Supporting Actor one-two-three punch of Javier Barden as Anton Chigurh, Christoph Waltz as Nazi officer Hans Landa, and Heath Ledger as… hmm… oh, right, The Joker.

Chadwick doesn’t have filmography, he’s just.. dead. Ma Rainey’s is winning costumes so it’ll be covered. The Father isn’t going home empty handed; its sole win will be Hopkins.
U could of worded the chadwick part alot more respectfully.

January 11, 2021 at 7:55 am #1203976133There’s a lot of people (or maybe the same few people) that show a clear lack of respect for Chadwick with the way they use their words… Like you can think someone else is going to win without being completely heartless and disrespectful

The way you spilled. In 2019, they chose to award a first-time nominee over a seven-time nominee with an giant, overdue narrative. But unlike Close, Chadwick doesn’t have the filmography or the overdue narrative. He’s not winning.
