I think that was too long ago now to draw sentiment votes for it.

That’s true. And Chadwick’s passing overshadowed Hanks’ covid counter.

I just really don’t want Hanks’ to get in lol he’s a great actor but please God not this year.

We have Mads, Ben-Adir, and Yeun for spot #5.

This could be the year for people of color in this category. I’m so excited. So many contenders.

Tom Hanks was great in News of The World, I watched earlier today, definitely a better nomination than Ben Affleck if it would to happen.

That said, A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood is still his best recent work.

I found his performance in A Beautiful Day… quite creepy. The News of the World role is perfect for his age but unfortunately it didn’t have any notable scenes by him. Kinda feels like a pet project for the director and Hanks himself.

I loved his scene with Zengel when she is calling her family at the early stages.
    He was great.

If Ahmed is indeed happening (he will literally be the sole nomination for his film since Raci is not happening and the movie is only contender for sound)

You can’t simply say that Raci “isn’t happening” when the passion for his perfomance is so big. Sure, he could end up beign just a critics thing, but at the same time he has a fair amount of chances of getting nominated.

BAFTA lineup will be locked preventing Mikkelsen from getting in. Boseman isn’t getting snubbed there and the rest 4 are all British (unless they act racist)

BAFTA will have six slots this year

And I agree, Mikkelsen it’s not likely at the moment and he’s not happening at SAG. But If he actually wins the Globe It would be crazy not to have him fifth or sixth for the Oscars

    FYC

Best Actor: Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round)

Best Actress: Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman)

    I wouldn’t say he’s overdue for a nom necessarily,

Mikkelsen should have been nominated, and won for, The Hunt.

Over all the other actual nominees.

I’m really hoping Kingsley Ben-Adir makes into Best Actor.

I could see a route for Yeun to get a nomination through the Demián Bichir way. In some ways similar kind of performance (toiling immigrant father), misses out on the Globes and BAFTA but gets a surprise SAG nod, sneaks into the fifth spot at the Oscars. What counts against Yeun is that he has far less screen time than Bichir, what’s in his favour is that his film has the potential to snag a few more noms than A Better Life, and he’s gotten some critics award noms already.

Realistically though that fifth spot remains Oldman’s to lose. Ben-Adir I do think is compromised by being run in supporting for Globes now. If Judas becomes a player then it could easily shift to Stanfield though.

    FYC:

Picture - Minari, Nomadland, Another Round, Promising Young Woman
Director - Chloe Zhao (Nomadland), Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round), Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman)
Actor - Steven Yeun (Minari), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal)
Actress - Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman), Frances McDormand (Nomadland)
    S. Actor - Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah), Paul Raci (Sound of Metal)
    S. Actress - Youn Yuh-jung (Minari)
