Lindo is still 5th for me. Gary Oldman is the Leo DiCaprio of this year, in that I was afraid he might miss because of a lack of passion but still makes it as a comfortable 3rd or 4th nominee. The Academy’s track record for Asian actors is really poor (even Yeun himself missed in 2018 for a performance that definitely deserved to be nominated) so I won’t be predicting Yeun until evidence suggests otherwise. I still hope Mads Mikkelsen can do some damage at the BAFTA although I realize that his chances are slim at best.

    Let’s see what BAFTA does
Another Round overperformed at the long list
Could Mads Mikkelsen enter the Oscar with only a BAFTA nod?

    For Your Emmy Consideration:
Matthew Rhys for "Perry Mason" as Leading Actor in a Drama Series
Ethan Hawke for "The Good Lord Bird" as Leading Actor in a Limited Series
Elizabeth Olsen and Kathryn Hahn for "Wandavision" as Leading and Supporting actress in Limited Series
Tobias Menzies for "The Crown" as Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
MJ Rodriguez for "Pose" as Leading Actress in a Drama Series.

Who’s getting nominated over Lindo? I don’t see it for Steven Yeun. I’ve seen no evidence that the Oscars are willing to nominate Asian actors.

I could answer that question for you, but

Let’s see what BAFTA does Another Round overperformed at the long list Could Mads Mikkelsen enter the Oscar with only a BAFTA nod?

I think it all depends on the publicity Another Round gets up until the point the voting ends. If it, for example, wins the Foreign Language Globe, some favorable clips are shown, Thomas Vinterberg gives a good speech where he talks about how Mads was the one being responsible for the script translating as well to the screen as it did and THEN the BAFTAs bite, it is possible. But after the ridiculous Golden Globe snub for Comedy Actor (yeah, still not over that objectively stupid clownery) it’s definitely an uphill climb.

Oldman over Lindo, being Mank only nomination and with Da 5 Bloods in Ensemble, it’s really weird. Tells you how strong Oldman is. He’s not missing. Hollywood loves their dead icons, don’t they.

But he doesn’t have GG AND SAG nominations. What actors were nominated for Oscar without both GG and SAG noms?

That’s a good question, I know cases were they’re not nominated at the SAG or Globes but they still get nominated at the Oscars, I don’t know if there was an actor that missed both and he still got nominated at the Oscars.

I mean I just listed Gary Oldman and Bradley Cooper. Also Javier Bardem.

BAFTA will tell us the 5th slot. Unlike Actress, I’m pretty sure they’ll choose at least one of “the contenders”: Rahim, Yeun or Lindo (or Mikkelsen 🙏). And even if they don’t, at least we’ll know that Lindo is dead and it’ll be between Rahim and Yeun

Nope. Rahim is behind both Lindo and Yeun. Lindo will coattail off his movie and the Oscars’ first-rank ballot system when it comes to nominations. Globes are racist.

I didn’t put it in order or anything, calm down lol

Yes, they are, but what about SAG??? Oldman over him?? What happened there.

Oldman was never in question. If anything it’s Yeun who took Lindo’s spot. And I’m fairly confident that Lindo will get Oscar-nominated over Yeun, at least until I see otherwise.

I think it might have been Oldman who knocked out Lindo because Seyfried missed (I’m assuming just barely?) and Minari got Youn in + Ensemble

    So far

Boseman, Ahmed, and Hopkins I’d argue are pretty safe. Especially the former two.
For the last 2 spots, we have Oldman, Yeun, Rahim, and maybe Lindo.

For some reason, I’m still not sold on Minari as a film being that strong, despite showing up strongly at SAG. So for now I’m going with the SAG 5 with the assumption that the Academy will go for Minari, but iffy on Yeun.

Yeun also has the problem of being an Asian actor. Minari will be lucky to get Youn nominated, much less it’s other potential contender

That’s mostly the problem I have with Minari and Oscars. There’s almost no precedent for it.

On one hand, it’s not a difficult watch but it’s also not necessarily a weepy sentimental drama either. It might be too “subtle” for the Oscars, but its showing at SAG gave me some hope.
