I guess there’s still a minimal chance for Hopkins to win the Oscar. I mean if he wins the Globe… wich doesn’t seem impossible since he’s a legend and never won there. Also, if televised awards chose to nominate Boseman for Da 5 Bloods then voters may feel less obligated to vote for him in general.
Obviously I’ll keep predicting Boseman til the end, this is just a theory.

January 13, 2021 at 11:06 am #1203981876George Clooney in the new THR roundtable that has come out right now literally said that Chadwick Boseman is going to win the Oscar for Ma Rainey because it’s the best performance of the year. I mean, wow.
We know what happened last year when many actors praised Joaquin`s performance

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 13, 2021 at 3:40 pm #1203982307There’s much more to Minari than just that.
The movie is gorgeous, the conflict of cultures and generations are pure poetry, but I’m sticking with the characters here
I feel like the parents were just in the corner as the kid and the grandma were in the spotlight, obviously there’s so much more to the story then those two but that’s how I feel.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 13, 2021 at 7:25 pm #1203982537Sadly don’t think Yeun has much of a chance anymore due to the fact so many consider him borderline supporting especially when compared to many of the other contenders, plus the fact that Minari has done well but not amazingly well thus far.
Still one of my favourite performances of the year and still hoping for the very unlikely. Him and Han Ye-ri’s (incidentally it’s awful that she hasn’t gotten a single citation this awards season yet) confrontations with one another were so powerful and just so many of those silent moments where you see the burdens of the world on Jacob’s mind are some of the best acting of the year. He may not have the most screen time but he definitely makes such a huge impact nevertheless.

January 14, 2021 at 1:53 am #1203982743It’s been obvious since the movie came out which makes this by far the most boring category imo. Still rooting for Riz Ahmed to pick up SOMETHING. MAYBE. Aside from more critics awards I mean.

1-Ahmed
2-Lindo
3-Yeun
4-Boseman
5-OldmanAlthough, I feel pretty confident in thinking that Oldman will be left off my personal list in the end.
I have high hopes for Hopkins but for now, Ahmed has my personal vote for that truly lovely performance.

While I don’t hate his performance like you do, I can understand why some found him to be a bit too big for the screen. He certainly played the role even bigger than I’ve seen some people play Levee onstage which is kind of crazy to think about.
