I don’t even think Gary Oldman is safe for the nomination. He could easily be this year’s DeNiro.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

So Riz Ahmed has another film that he’s been gathering attention for that is premiering at LFF soon.

Maybe this gives him a boost for Sound of Metal. Would be hillarious if the winners of Actor and Actress ended up being lesser known stars in Hollywood in indie films (not saying Ahmed is going to win but it would be interesting to see people both in the industry and on here’s reactions if him and let’s say Day or Kirby ended up winning over Hopkins and Oldman and McDormand and Davis.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

It’s either Hopkins gives a performance that is too undeniable to ignore and thus just sweeps everywhere OR we’re in for a British heavyweight battle of The Veteran Legend against The Fast Rising Star, when Kaluuya gives his own towering performance that is hard to pass over as well.

    Kaluuya- Oscar, GG (Drama), Sag

    Hopkins- Bafta, CC

I can see either of them winning the globe actually, but Hopkins is most likely a lock for the Bafta.

I actually disagree that Hopkins would be a lock for BAFTA in a situation where he loses Globe and SAG to Kaluuya (who is also British, for what that’s worth). Hopkins already has two film BAFTAs after all, plus a TV one from the 70s. Of course if he starts sweeping he’ll scoop up BAFTA as well.

I don’t even think Gary Oldman is safe for the nomination. He could easily be this year’s DeNiro.

I don’t understand this comparison. De Niro’s de-aging in The Irishman was controversial – more so than Pacino’s or Pesci’s – and many felt it distracted from his performance. Whereas Oldman reportedly portrays Mankiewicz without even the aid of transformative makeup.

What are the odds that Sacha Baron Cohen decides to go Supporting instead of Lead for The Trial of the Chicago 7, in order to campaign for Lead for Borat 2?

If he does do that, how do you think this will affect the Best Actor race?

The difference between those films, however, is that Mank will do really well at the Oscars, unlike The Irishman which won nothing. Oldman is more compatible to DiCaprio last year: the veteran actor who was overdue, just won his 1st Oscar a few years ago, and is locked for a nomination but has no chance at a win.

Borat 2 is coming this year?

Well regardless, he should campaign for Supporting for Chicago 7. Campaigning for lead for that performance would be blatant category fraud.

Yes. The trailer came out this morning. It’s being released on Prime on October 23, so the film will be eligible for the 93rd Oscars.
