Get real, this won’t be better than SotL. Critics literally did the same with Charlize Theron last year.

How can you say that when you haven’t seen The Father lol.

Also Anthony Hopkins is a much better actor than Charlize Theron…

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", AMANDA SEYFRIED FOR "MANK", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

I can’t wait to see Sir Anthony sweep this season. He is simply so deserving.

    Picture: Nomadland
    Director: Chloe Zhao
    Leading Actress: Frances McDormand
    Leading Actor: Anthony Hopkins
    Supporting Actress: Olivia Colman
    Supporting Actor: Daniel Kaluuya
    Adapted Screenplay: The Father
    Original Screenplay: Minari

I read this with Daniel Day-Lewis’s voice in my head because of your profile picture lol.

I saw The Father at Sundance, as did three of my friends. We all collectively agreed that Sir Anthony’s performance in the film towered that of his in Lambs.

Obviously it’ll remain to be seen how people react to the performance, but I’m sure that however acclaimed he is, Hannibal Lecter will still remain his most iconic role.

Most “iconic” does not a career-best performance make.

When HFPA comes thru and ignores him.

That won’t happen. Hopkins’ performance is undeniable and he will crush his competition with ease. You’ll see.

I didn’t say they were the same thing.

So what point were you attempting to make then? It won’t end up being his most well-recognised, or “iconic”, performance but it is his best performance to date, and I simply cannot envisage a year, let alone barren 2020, where he isn’t justifiably awarded for it.

What wolfali quoted was “career defining performance“ though. Not the same thing.

An actor’s best performance is usually their most iconic. I’m just noting that even if he’s better in The Father than in Silence of the Lambs, the latter will still most likely be what he’s best known for.

Okay, I agree with the latter half of your statement. Still has no bearing on how well he will be received by AMPAS or the HFPA.

I never said it did, I was merely making an observation.

Whew, can’t wait for him to lose with the “best performance”

Did Sir Anthony shoot you in the arm or something? So much unwarranted antagonism. I hope you get some help.
