Netflix released a documentary that pays tribute to Sophia Loren. They are pushing their girl.January 20, 2021 at 6:31 pm #1203993852
The Golden Globe nominations are announced in two weeks, and I just wanted to point out once again how competitive this drama actress field is:
Don’t forget HFPA banquet attendee Aubrey Plaza.
FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"January 20, 2021 at 7:06 pm #1203993869
Parasite absolutely deserved best director. The film would be nothing without its stellar direction. Having a fancy special effect gimmick doesn’t automatically make your film the best directed.January 20, 2021 at 7:19 pm #1203993887
This won’t matter at all because Ma Rainey is obviously a big contender but it is interesting nonetheless that Netflix has separate Q&As with Kirby and Loren for their films but not Davis for Ma Rainey.

Catch up to what? They’ve given her Globes for both of her major projects (so far). If anything they were ahead of the curve giving Stefani an acting win, so they’ve got that “covered” for a while, at least until she gets ha Moonstruck moment.
you’re right. There’s no catch up in this case. They got ahead already even when folks on the Internet were against their decision. I love the Globes for not giving to people’s opinions and going their own way most of the time

Damn I want to slot Sophia Loren in at the Globes because she’s been doing a lot of campaigning but there literally is no room. Davis and McDormand are locked, Promising Young Woman and Focus are essentially bribing them to nominate Mulligan and both Kirby and Zendaya are doing a lot of campaigning, have previous awards IOUs and are typical Globe nominees. Add on the fact both Ellen Burstyn and John David Washington are doing a lot of campaigning for them.
Maybe one of Kirby and Zendaya miss à la Florence Pugh missing to Annette Bening last year? But that would require a nomination for either Ellen Burstyn or John David Washington to keep them afloat no?
