A little bit of Magic never hurt anybody.

January 21, 2021 at 8:53 pm #1203995409Not sure what the consensus is around here since I haven’t been on GD in a couple of months, but I think this is between Davis and Mulligan with McDormand as the dark horse. Davis is the frontrunner for now because it’s traditional bait, but Mulligan’s film and performance seems to have more passion. I think she stands a decent shot at GG if PYW overperforms (drama film, director and/or screenplay), and if PYW gets SAG ensemble then she may really be coming. Her film should do very well at BAFTA too. I’d still predict Davis right now but we’ll get a clearer picture when GG and SAG noms are announced.
I was just about to post the same thing. Mulligan seems to be the performance that people get really excited about. Davis’ work is respected but there does seem to be more passion for Mulligan. I just don’t think they’ll give Frances a third one so soon after the second one.

I actually haven’t seen it yet. I was just going by what I’ve read people post online.
January 21, 2021 at 9:25 pm #1203995424I really can’t stop thing about nomadland specifically Frances. Yes I know she won’t win but it’s honestly is a masterclass in acting. It’s extremely subtle but every smile or emotions she makes you feel for the character. She literally living though the character Fern and her best moments was when she listens. You really get an insight of who Fern is and how she is our gate way to the people who are are dwellers. The beginning scene of the film is one of her few “showy” acting too although it’s a brief scene you really feel her pain. That’s why I have Frances as my favorite acting performance and personal winner with Carey in 2nd place. Carey was great and I’m actually rooting for her to win too but Frances was just so good I wouldn’t even be mad she won a third just after her 2nd. She deserves this career resurgence

Frances dominated that whole movie and she would easily win if not for 3 billboards few years ago.
Nomadland is such a beautiful film, it’s like watching poetryJanuary 22, 2021 at 12:06 am #1203995500McDormand may win.
January 22, 2021 at 1:15 am #1203995516I’m glad she isn’t because she’d probably end up pushing out one of the deserving contenders if that was the case. How bad would the optics be if it was Meryl fucking Streep who stole a nomination from Bakalova or Youn lol
As usual, I’ll be in the minority here. Streep was better than Bakalova. Borat Subsequent Moviefilm was a mess. Streep at least behaved like a human being in her role and gave a stunning performance making 71 look cute

She was good, but nothing special or amazing. I won’t be mad if she gets snubbed. The performance is overrated

You could take the time to construct an argument rather than merely trolling other people’s posts.
