NYFCC has been extremely unpredictable the last two years, so I wouldn’t say anyone is a lock there. With that said, I have a feeling the top3 critics are going to split between Frances and Vanessa.
I would bet Carey Mulligan for the NYFCC. I’m expecting Mulligan to follow the same awards path of Lupita Nyong’o last year – the biggest difference is that she’s more likely to be nominated (and win) the GG, which will boost her Oscar chances.

October 19, 2020 at 12:09 pm #1203788623Viola Davis should be Netflix’s main push for lead actress, props to them if they could actually get 3 of the 5 nominations in with Davis,Adams and Kirby.
October 19, 2020 at 12:20 pm #1203788644Viola is just unrecognizable. If it gets nominated for Best Picture, I can see both her and Chadwick winning.
October 19, 2020 at 12:22 pm #1203788648Viola and Chadwick look absolutely incredible. I’ll definitely be rooting for them.
Can’t wait to watch this.
October 19, 2020 at 12:28 pm #1203788674Viola has to win for this. It truly feels like a winning performance. I don’t think anyone could squeeze any more acting in there, and that’s just a trailer. It’s showcasing the peak of her talents, but is also fresh and new for her career. A legend.
FYC:
Best Director - Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Darius Marder (Sound of Metal)
Lead Actor - Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods), Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal)
Supporting Actor - Paul Raci (Sound of Metal)
Supporting Actress - Youn Yuh-jung (Minari)
October 19, 2020 at 12:31 pm #1203788678Amy dead. Frances dead. Kirby dead. Viola is coming for every one and everything. She’s making history bitches!
October 19, 2020 at 12:32 pm #1203788684The film really gives me more of a Chicago vibe than an August C. Wilson play vibe.
If this is as good as the trailer suggested it to be (by far Netflix’s best film trailer yet) not only is it winning S. Actor it is also winning Actress, Directing, Picture and Adapted Screenplay (sorry Nomadland and Mank).
FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"
October 19, 2020 at 12:36 pm #1203788704Yeah the way Viola and the film have just skyrocketed up my predictions –
