Amy needs multiple actors to coattail off of, so another snub it is.

Michelle Pfeiffer’s movie looks like a complete flop, so I’m not sure why she is still being considered. I’m pretty sure Meryl Streep is ahead of her, for example.

The Prom looks like a bigger flop. It looks like a razzie waiting to happen.

This makes no sense when her very first nomination was a lone nod for her film. She just happens to have done a lot of prestige ensemble films and there were other reasons for her missing for Arrival (and Big Eyes for that matter). It’s not as if members of the acting branch have some vendetta against her as a solo lead.

Meryl is likelier to win GG than Michelle and to get a SAG nom. Her movie will also be bigger commercially. Just based on that she is ahead.

What concerns me about Pfeiffer’s movie is the genre. When was the last time they went for a weird, quirky dramedy? I think she’ll definitely get the Globe nom and possibly even win, but the Oscar will be an uphill battle. Don’t forget how basic the academy can be with its choices. Hence, also my concern about Mulligan.

If Respect does come out, I expect Hudson to be big. I know a lot of people here would disagree with that assessment, but she’s playing Aretha freakin’ Franklin. I am not saying she’s winning, but she’s def. a real threat to at least be nominated — especially if she rides this whole narrative about being hand-picked by Franklin herself.

Oscar FYC -- Give Viola Davis her second Oscar!

Does Silver Linings Playbook count? It’s super straightforward compared Promising Young Woman or French Exit but it’s the closest recent example of an actress winning for a dramedy I can think of. There’s also Colman which is a comedic performance, but The Favourite has a lot of traditionally Oscar-y elements.

Jennifer Hudson is not going to happen. Her win was a very kind gesture.

Adams is in the bubble but the movie must be a 60+ on Metacritic me think.

    Im rooting for:

    Kirby
    Andra
    Sophia
    Vanessa
    Francis
    Blunt
    Pfeiffer

It’s October. This talk of “y’all need to stop trying to make someone happen” as if all tge critics and precursors have cone out is really naive.

In that case we shouldn’t be predicting the Oscars at all until at least February. It’s fun!

It’s not delusional when we haven’t even seen the performances yet.

P.S. Whenever someone on this site has used that meme on me my prediction has ended up being correct! Thanks for instilling the confidence!

If HE is as bad as people are claiming it to be then I don’t see Adams having any chance of sweeping this year especially considering Viola could have a better performance in a bp contender.
