Having just seen Kajillionaire I am perplexed as to how Miranda July’s screenplay and Evan Rachel Wood’s performance have never been in the Oscar conversation.

I predicted her for GG Best Actress in Musical/Comedy, but they chose Music miraculously instead of this gem.

Maybe the 5th spot, but the 6th spot too? They already have TWO British actresses (Kirby and Mulligan) who are guaranteed nominations. I doubt they’re gonna have 4 British nominees and only 2 Americans.

It’s a hometown jury of up to only 12 voters, if the object is to expand the diversity and give more spotlight attention to homegrown talent that wouldn’t get recognized otherwise, why wouldn’t they? It’s not like there are that many strong non-British alternative contenders, anyways, and I think those voters largely like stuff like Rocks and Saint Maude more than Hillbilly Elegy or The Life Ahead.

I like this trend of precursors not making everything super predictable come Oscar time. It should go more in that direction. These awarding bodies should have their own identity outside of being an Oscar predictor.

Yes SAG only nominated Amy Adams has a better chance at winning Best Actress over Carey Mulligan and any of SAG and Globe AND CC nominated Viola Davis, Vanessa Kirby and Frances McDormand. Sure JanO.
