Does anyone remember hearing about PYW before September 2020 lol?

Obviously it got sent to critics and since there were like no film in contention for earlier critics awards (due to the pandemic), it got lucky, so basically lucked out.

It was supposed to play in our biggest blockbuster theater in Germany. That’s not saying much but I had definitely heard of it before the first lockdown.

    FYC - Oscars 2022:
NINE DAYS in all categories, including:
    - Best Picture
    - Best Director
    - Best Original Screenplay
    - Best Actor (Winston Duke)
    - Best Supporting Actress (Zazie Beetz)
    - Best Supporting Actor (Benedict Wong)

Get Out has 85 on MC.

    Promising Young Woman has 72.

    They are not comparable.

You’re right. And yet the latter still has more nominations. 😂

The United States vs Billie Holliday has a 52 on MC whilst Judy has a 66 and I hear non-stop comparisons between the two.

Of course the comparison isn’t picture perfect but both Get Out/Promising Young Woman are Universal/Focus properties that subvert a more mainstream genre with a socially relevant premise. Both made waves at Sundance and both are from Emmy nominated television creatives. Might Promising Young Woman not have done as well at the box office as Get Out? Sure. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything comparable between the two.

After all Promising Young Woman has done slightly better at awards shows than Get Out did (and before I get called out Get Out is one of my favourite films of all time).

FYC: All things The Crown, Hacks and I May Destroy You (and Hannah Waddingham and Julianne Nicholson whilst you're at it)!!

    Yup.

But to be frank Get Out’s competition was much more tougher than PYW’s. If Get Out had been released this year I think it would have got an Editing nomination as well. And maybe Original Score.

The PYW haters are on a roll today.

That’s the power of a top 2 Best Picture contender y’all.

    SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

I’ve rewatching PYW tonight. To someone who have watched it, Im really curious about one thing in the ending. After Ryan got that scheduled message from Cassandra, and then some crazy shit happens, do you think Cass also done posted and sended the video to everywhere and everyone?

    ALSO SPOILERS:
I think that’s purposefully left open. Ryan could have had the chance to “redeem” himself (in a storytelling way, not in a literal, of course there is no redemption for what he did) by guiding the police to Al’s bachelor party, thus contributing to them solving the case earlier than the wedding and preventing Molina’s character from having to send the tapes. I like to think that Molina leaked them when that didn’t happen, but I think it’s not clarified in the film and I’m not sure whether her message to the lawyer is read out or not.

What’s the point of this discussion?

What’s the point of any discussion we have? Do we always need a clear point to discuss something?

It was a subject that came up and we are just talking about it.

Also remember just like Ma Rainey. Critics have to go easy on black films or they’d be called racists.

It literally only has 1 more nomination? Lol

It’s still more. My point stands.

They way you all fall for that user that creates a new profile every two days to lead the discussion against the same contenders with the most random takes for a Best Actress thread lol

    My point stands.

What you said was correct, PYW does has more nominations than Get Out, but your point doesn’t stand, because we know having one more nomination in a much weak year means absolutely nothing.
