Agreed. I think we can safely assume McDormand’s out even if she wins SAG and/or BAFTA. The optics of a white woman winning her third BA over two black women vying for their first won’t be good no matter how liked McDormand is in HW. Speaking of which, I don’t think anyone mentioned the ongoing George Floyd trial yet (unless I missed the post). I only see it reinforcing the still relevant themes of civil rights and racial violence in Day’s film. Voters may take note. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if all acting wins go to POC this year.

I don’t know why you are constantly selling Viola short but its getting a little too much. Her awards for Fences, The Help and HTGAWM are far from name checks. She totally deserved them.

She deserved for Fences and (1) for HTGAWM. Meryl should’ve won the SAG the year of the help.
