I had to search for Hillbilly on my Netflix account, which isn’t a good sign either :/ It should be the first thing to appear!

This depends on each account and what type of films you watch and like on there (as well as what you google).
For me the first things that come up are The Crown and Dolly Parton‘s Christmas on the Square. Maybe the former comes up first for a lot of people still as its a high profile Netflix programme but I doubt everyone sees Dolly Parton pop up first on their Netflix home page.

November 24, 2020 at 5:20 am #1203860651Ok um… unpopular opinion, I guess.
Watching Hillbilly Elegy now… and I actually like these performances. Granted, I haven’t seen most (all?) of the other contenders anyway, but it’s not as bad as reviews make it seem.
EDIT: It was the first movie on my screen when I checked the app.
I just love movies. And awards.
November 24, 2020 at 5:40 am #1203860755I have no doubt that the reviews are too harsh. I am looking forward to watching it.

November 24, 2020 at 6:41 am #1203861091Amy should not get a nomination for this. For her own sake. I’m sorry- you can call it “acting” if you want- but this is a melodramatic, meaningless, mess. It’s great if people are actually enjoying it though, because I did not.

Lead Actor - Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods), Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal)

Expected this to be the case. I’m not sure why the reviews went in to such a a degree. I haven’t read the book, so I can’t comment on the political aspect, but my feeling is this will be a totally serviceable if slightly lacking movie. Not a masterpiece, but not the total failure it’s been made out as. Thanks for this. I’ll be watching later, and I’m looking forward to it.

they aren’t. amy adams and glenn close’s performances are completely misguided. they ham it up to near-parodic levels and they try so hard to rise above the material that they just end up making every line even more cringy and laughable.
November 24, 2020 at 7:07 am #1203861211Some critics might have been influenced by politics when reviewing but honestly, I’d say the film deserves even lower ratings than it got.
There really isn’t a redeemable quality about this. Even Zimmer’s score is bad.

I’m getting very vivid flashbacks.
P.S. Not an Amy hater I’m just against foregone conclusions made 6-7 months before the Oscars.
