With the way Pfeiffer and Winslet’s films have underperformed I hope people understand now not to declare something a winner before a film even has been reviewed.

Anyway fingers crossed Ma Rainey and Hillbilly are good.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", AMANDA SEYFRIED FOR "MANK", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

Don’t be so quick to rule out Pfeiffer. She was great in movie  and reviews have single her out. The movie doesn’t always work but she nails the role. Also, Valerie Mahaffey was excellent in her supporting role. I didn’t even know she was in movie. I hope she gets recognize in supporting Bc she was a highlight.

The problem is that unlike something like Judy, which most people said was just okay, there are reviews calling this out as just plain bad. That, combined with an off kilter concept have definitely dealt Pfeiffer’s chances a big blow. I say this as someone who was predicting her to win earlier today (knew it was stretch even then).

The reviews def. aren’t terrible, but the academy at large just doesn’t go for movies like this. We have a contender like Pfeiffer every single year, and rarely does one as such get in. It’s very disappointing — same with the Horror genre — but that’s just how it is, unfortunately. Both Kirby and Mulligan will have a similar hurdle, but something tells me that they have a much better shot. Pfeiffer is probably going to get that Globe nom though.

I was rooting for Jacobs, Pfeiffer, and Hedges, and I think I personally will like the movie even if the reviews aren’t overwhelmingly positive. It will probably settle around ‘generally favorable’. Maybe I’ll put Mulligan in after all.

And I’m right again when I say Letterbox is definitely not a viable place to check a movie’s acclaim.

Well, FE got panned, only the performances were well received.

Early reviews there were amazing. It actually screamed Best Picture material. Obviously it went down now, since more people updated their scores.

2X Oscar nominee Lucas Hedges? A concept

Oh yes I find him so much better than the other younger acclaimed actors (~30 and younger) like Timothée Chalamet, Taron Egerton, Ezra Miller, Ansel Elgort etc

People like Lakeith Stanfield, Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome are great but they need more shine and opportunities. Stanfield, I feel, is on the right track and might outpace MBJ to that first Oscar nom.

What ever happened to Miles Teller?
